‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Season 2 faces major production setback — could delay its release
'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' hit an early roadblock amid the filming of Season 2. The series began filming in Belfast, Ireland, and later moved to Gran Canaria, Spain, to capture the barren landscapes and depict the drought. The timing of the drought in the story was ill-timed and a bit ironic, given Gran Canaria's historic rainfall, which it had not seen in the last 15 years. This forced production to relocate from a familiar place where 'Game of Thrones' was shot, depicting southern Westeros. According to Winter is Coming, the reservoir Presa de las Niñas reached levels that caused severe flooding in the region. To further compound the production woes, flooding has also left part of the set submerged, making it impossible to film.
The location has now moved to a drier part of the peninsula, though it is unclear whether the series will be delayed in release. Previous reports suggested that a major portion of filming for Season 2 had already been completed. However, the latest would likely affect the release date. As for the storyline, the final minutes of the Season 1 finale saw Dunk (Peter Claffey) and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) set their sights on the next destination, Dorne, the southern, desert-covered part of Westeros. Maekar (Sam Spruell) searches for Egg after the squire decides to leave the Targaryen family and travel with Dunk, hinting at a potential Targaryen crossover in the second season.
Season 2 will also see a title change. 'A Knight of Nine Kingdoms' was teased. Now, fans will be hopeful for more adventures for the young squire and Ser Duncan in future seasons. Should there be more seasons of 'A Knight of Nine Kingdoms', expect more of these regions to be covered along the way. It will comprise six episodes like its predecessor. Barring the possibility of Dunk and Maekar crossing paths, there is no official logline for the new season. With the filming already underway, the new installment is expected to be released sometime in 2027. The new chapter follows the second Dunk & Egg novella, 'The Sworn Sword'. Very little is known about the cast of Season 2 outside of Claffey and Ansell. While Henry Cavill is rumored to play Daemon Blackfyre, nothing is concrete at the moment. All episodes of 'A Knight of Seven Kingdoms' are streaming on HBO Max.
