'My Sister's Bones' trailer featuring 'Black Widow' star Olga Kurylenko promises creeping dread
Sometimes a trailer drops, and suddenly, while watching it, you realize you’ve been holding your breath for two straight minutes. That’s pretty much the vibe right now. Quiver Distribution has officially rolled out the trailer and release date for ‘My Sister’s Bones’. It’s a psychological thriller that inclines towards unrest and memory, and those thoughts that creep in when you’re convinced something nearby is very wrong. The film stars Olga Kurylenko, familiar to many from her Marvel days in ‘Black Widow’. She stars alongside Anna Friel and Filipino actor Lovi Poe, whose famous work includes ‘Thy Womb’, ‘Seasons’, and ‘Guilty Pleasure’.
The project draws on Nuala Ellwood's best-selling novel. And judging by the footage, it isn’t interested in taking the easy route. The official trailer shows the inside of a bleak police station, where Kate Rafter, a well-known war correspondent, sits across from psychiatrist Dr. Shaw. Their conversation slowly circles the events that crushed Kate’s sense of stability, including an awful experience in Iraq and the recent death of her mother. These moments have dragged her back to Herne Bay. She thought she had left the town behind for good, but it clearly has unfinished business waiting for her.
Returning home is never simple, especially when family bonds are already frayed. Kate’s sister greets her with hostility instead of comfort, making it clear that forgiveness is not on the table. Meanwhile, her husband Paul attempts, and fails, to keep the peace. The tension inside the house feels heavy and unchanging. While packing through her late mother’s belongings in her childhood home, Kate begins to notice strange things happening next door, per IMDb. She observes small details at first, then moments she can’t explain away. And that’s when the unease really kicks in.
What makes ‘My Sister’s Bones’ stand out is how it handles internal fear with the possibility that something external might truly be wrong. Is Kate falling apart under the weight of grief and trauma, or is there something genuinely terrifying hiding close by? The trailer never gives a clear answer. It chooses instead to let doubt settle in, scene after scene, with images and conversations that feel just a bit off. The supporting cast includes Jenny Seagrove, Ben Miles, David Bradley, and Maggie Steed. There’s a quiet confidence in how the film presents its characters, allowing glances and pauses to carry as much weight as dialogue.
The movie is directed by Heidi Greensmith, working from a screenplay by Naomi Gibney, with Bill Kenwright producing. Clocking in at 81 minutes, or just over an hour and twenty minutes, the runtime suggests a tight experience that doesn’t linger longer than it needs to. No filler. No excess. As per ComingSoon, ‘My Sister’s Bones’ will be available to rent or own on digital platforms beginning January 30. The movie gives thriller fans something chilly to start the year with.
