‘Sweetpea’ Season 2 first look reveals Ella Purnell’s Rhiannon Lewis in a chilling new avatar
Ella Purnell is returning to 'Sweetpea' for Season 2, with a first-look image offering a glimpse at the next chapter of the dark comedy thriller. In the newly released still, Purnell reprises her role as Rhiannon Lewis, holding a ketchup bottle as the word “Monster” is scrawled on the wall behind her, hinting at the character’s increasingly complicated state of mind. According to the official logline, the new season follows Rhiannon as she receives a promotion, a new romantic relationship, and yes, there's a new copycat killer who threatens to expose her. As the situation goes out of hand, she begins to question whether her ex, AJ, may have been right about her all along.

For the unversed, the first instalment of Sweetpea ended on a gripping note, setting the tone for Season 2. Ella Purnell’s Rhiannon kills her boyfriend, AJ Pierce (Calam Lynch), after he discovers the truth about the murders she has committed. When he calls her a monster and threatens to leave, she fatally stabs him multiple times. The scene closes with AJ dying in her arms. Season 1 went on to receive positive reviews from critics.
At the time of writing, 'Sweetpea' Season 2 logline reveals very little, but the story is expected to pick up in the aftermath of these events. There is no official release date yet, although the thriller is expected to premiere later this year. If it follows the same rollout as Season 1, an October release is likely. Season 2 will also introduce several new characters. Rish Shah joins as Gabriel, Rhiannon’s romantic interest, while Tamsin Greig plays AJ’s mother, Liv. Taj Atwal will appear as Freya, Rhiannon’s new boss, and Jenny Walser as Daisy, a new friend. Returning cast members include John Pointing, Jeremy Swift, Leah Harvey, Ingrid Oliver, Nitin Ganatra, and Alexandra Dowling.
