What happened in 'The Voice' Season 23 Episode 10?
The episode commenced with the two artists from Team Niall, namely Jerome Godwin III and Talia Smith, who Niall regarded as having "two big voices." Niall pointed out that Talia's soul and Jerome's control were their standout qualities that he believed would complement each other perfectly. During the rehearsal, Niall worked with them to help Talia relax so that she could add some more of her own melodies into an arrangement that originally favored Jerome's style heavily. Kelly observed that Jerome had good control over his runs and stood out more than Talia did. However, she acknowledged that Talia had an impressive vocal range and a captivating performance style. On the other hand, Chance thought that Jerome could sing anything and noticed pitch problems with Talia's singing. Despite this, he also believed that Talia managed to pull through in the end. Blake also took note of Talia's issues and thought that Jerome had the upper hand in the battle. Niall agreed that there were pitch issues "across the board," but appreciated that both artists put on impressive performances with some really high points. Ultimately, Niall trusted his instincts and declared Jerome as the winner of the battle.
In the second round of the episode, Kelly matched up JB Somers and Rachel Christine to perform 'Light On,' a song that is a perfect fit for singer-songwriters to work on. While rehearsing, Kelly was pleasantly surprised by JB’s falsetto and how he was willing to tone it down to build momentum. Kelly felt that they had great chemistry together and believed it would be a tough decision to make. Niall praised the duo for their harmonies and the way they managed to reach the climax of the song, but ultimately gave the edge to JB. Chance, on the other hand, believed Rachel was the clear winner and could go on to win the entire competition if he had the final say. Blake noticed that the beginning of the song was not quite on track, but he felt that Rachel had a stronger performance overall. Kelly acknowledged that the duo was much tighter in rehearsals than in the final performance, and ultimately decided to keep Rachel on her team because she stood out more in the battle.
Due to personal reasons, Alex Whalen had to leave Team Blake, so his battle partner Neil Salsich performed solo with their song 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine' and received a direct entry to the knockout rounds. Niall appreciated Neil's versatility in performing songs from different genres and saw potential in him as an artist. Meanwhile, Chance picked Noivas and Ray Uriel for his next battle, with the song 'Jealous Guy' chosen to showcase their individual styles and vocal abilities. During rehearsals, Chance noted their great chemistry and advised them to connect with the audience during their performance.
Chance selected Noivas and Ray Uriel to go head-to-head in the next battle, with the song choice being 'Jealous Guy.' During rehearsals, Chance praised the duo for playing off each other's energy, but reminded them of the importance of engaging with the audience during their performance. During the battle, Kelly praised both artists, commending Noivas for his powerful and infectious energy and Ray for his impressive runs. Blake also enjoyed Noivas’ energy and awarded him the win. Niall enjoyed the unique rendition of the song, liking Ray's tone and runs, and being amazed by the power of Noivas' voice. Chance saw potential in both artists, but ultimately chose Ray for his control over his vocals. Blake, who was previously blocked by Chance from adding Noivas to his team in the blinds, was ready to use his steal to take him onto his team.
