After delivering a box office success with his space film, Ryan Gosling is already gearing up to take on a new project, and it sounds like a big one. According to Deadline, Gosling will headline an upcoming event film for Universal Pictures. It will be directed by the filmmaking duo known as Daniels, which includes Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. The project doesn’t even have a title yet, which somehow makes it more intriguing, as if the studio is keeping its cards close to the chest while assembling the pieces behind the curtain. Details about the plot are currently unknown, but, as per Collider, Kwan teased that the film would be a “fun sci-fi, action comedy with a big heart. Very existential.”

Production is expected to kick off in Los Angeles sometime this summer, suggesting things are moving faster than the lack of information might imply. There’s also been a slight shuffle with the release calendar. The film was initially penciled in for June 12, 2027, but has since been pushed to November 19 of the same year. What makes this even more interesting is how it fits into Gosling’s growing lineup for 2027. He’s already attached to ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’, with May 28, 2027, locked in as the premiere date.

Now, with this new project in the mix, he’s looking at two major releases in the same year, which is no small feat, even for someone with his track record. And speaking of track records, his latest film, ‘Project Hail Mary’, has been doing exceedingly well at the box office. The sci-fi adventure has been pulling in strong numbers, crossing $80 million domestically early on and climbing past $140 million globally. The film has now pulled in about $100 million across North America, with its global total reaching roughly $155 million. The Daniels, meanwhile, are not exactly newcomers either. Their first feature, ‘Swiss Army Man’, starring Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe, made waves for its unusual concept and offbeat tone.

Then came ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, led by Michelle Yeoh. The movie soared at the box office and swept major awards, including multiple Oscars. Before all that, they gained attention through music videos, including the wildly popular clip for ‘Turn Down for What’ by DJ Snake and Lil Jon. Meanwhile, the production duties for the untitled film will be handled by Kwan and Scheinert alongside Jonathan Wang, under their Playgrounds banner. Right now, though, it’s still early days, as information about the official synopsis, supporting cast, and release window is yet to be announced.
