Netflix finally drops ‘Pride and Prejudice’ trailer ft. Emma Corrin and anticipation never felt so sweet
Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden combine to bring Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy to life in Netflix's much-awaited 'Pride and Prejudice' series. Made for the streamer by Dolly Alderton, the six-episode drama is slated for a fall release and is based on Jane Austen's iconic classic of the same name. The crisp teaser released by Netflix on Tuesday shows Corrin Elizabeth gazing at the sunset from a roof. Her facial expression changes to a warm blush when she hears the galloping of a horse, with the next scene revealing Lowden on horseback.
Directed by Euros Lyn, the rest of the cast, alongside Corrin and Lowden, includes Olivia Colman as Mrs. Bennet, Freya Mavor as Jane Bennet, Rufus Sewell as Mr. Bennet, Hollie Avery as Kitty Bennet, Hopey Parish as Mary Bennet, Jamie Demetriou as Mr. Collins, Daryl McCormack as Mr. Bingley, Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourg, Rhea Norwood as Lydia Bennet, and Siena Kelly as Caroline Bingley. Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter serve as executive producers, alongside Alderton, Lyn, and Corrin, in debut production roles.
'Pride and Prejudice' follows the story of Elizabeth (Lizzy) Bennet, an unmarried young woman and the second of five daughters, whose mother hunts desperately to see her paired and packed off. Things take a turn when Elizabeth meets a curt and rude Darcy, who at first appears to be totally uninterested in her. That said, the story changes when he falls head over heels for her.
"Jane Austen’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life," Alderton said in a statement. "With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favorite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr. Darcy."
In her earlier interview with Tudum, Corrin was elated to play Elizabeth, calling it a 'once-in-a-lifetime' opportunity. "To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honor. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again," she said.
Over the years, there have been numerous adaptations of Austen's timeless classic. The first TV adaptation was done by the BBC in 1983. In 2005, a movie starring Keira Knightley (an Oscar-nominated performance) and Matthew Macfadyen was released. The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing $121.6 million worldwide on a $28 million budget. Knightley's performance received lavish praise, and she received four Oscar nominations.
At the time of writing, there is no official release date for the Netflix series. As all shows on the streamer, 'Pride and Prejudice' is expected to be a one-time drop. A full-length trailer is likely to drop closer to the release date.
