The K-drama ‘Snowdrop’ that was one of the most awaited shows in Korean history is under fire again and Jisoo’s fans on Twitter think BTS’ fans are to blame

It is a well-known fact that BTS and Blackpink are two of the biggest K-pop groups globally but since the beginning of time, the two of their fandoms -- ARMYs and Blinks -- have never been able to bond. While there exist fans who love and adore both groups and also fans who respect the other without being a fan, there is a large chunk of ARMYs and Blinks who will clash head to head, defending their fandom.

The ongoing discussion revolving around the JTBC and Disney+ K-drama, 'Snowdrop', starring Jung Hae-in and Blackpink’s Kim Jisoo, is sparking a lot of controversies of late. And just like everything else in the world, ARMYs have found a way to become part of this issue just like many others revolving around Blackpink members. While many ARMYs and general fans of Korean dramas are talking about the show and what lies ahead, Blinks are highlighting how ARMYs are making the boycott of the show their own business.

Petitions filed to boycott ‘Snowdrop’

The K-drama has been under fire from its inception due to its connection with historical events as well as a former activist. Now that the plot of the story has been changed, reports suggest that the petitions filed against the broadcast of the K-drama have received around 300K signatures. While Twitter is in shambles with fans talking about how the drama received a go-ahead from the Government of South Korea itself and fans defending the show just because Jisoo from Blackpink is a part of it.

Korean residents mentioned that Jisoo being a part of the show has blindsided many Blinks and they are not understanding the gravity of the problem with Snowdrop. This discussion gave ARMYs the impetus to join the conversation and speak on behalf of Korean residents. To this, Blinks are now suggesting that ARMYs are the ones responsible to blowing the issue out of proportion as the show is being discussed by BTS fans because of the existence of a Blackpink member in the cast.

It’s Blinks vs ARMYs all over again

Twitter is seeing both fandoms get brutal as Blinks battle to protect their faves and ARMYs side with Korean citizens. One Blink said, “We just want peace to hype Jisoo drama debut and snowdrop, instead of wasting time with a fandom that finds the smallest things to drag the girls. What happened on instagram should ring a bell.” To this another fan responded, “But you do realize armys and other kpop stans will be in jisoo’s business and there definitely will be hate tweets so to avoid that should she just cancel snowdrop?” On online ARMY talked about how Blinks beleive that Korean citizens are not really against the drama, ‘Snowdrop’ and ARMYs are using Virtual Proxy Networks (VPN’s) to pose as Korean citizens to sign petitions against Jisoo’s show. Other ARMY’s commented saying that Jisoo is really to be blamed for picking such a controversial drama.

One Blink said, “Correct me if I am wrong but as far as I know, Half of the people who tried to sabotage snowdrop were armys also how can the koreans cancel the snowdrop if their comments on naver news and naver tv are like this.” One Blink said, “there’s something very infuriating though about seeing armys jumping for joy in the quotes of snowdrop related tweets because we all know if the tables were turned they’d try to rewrite history.”

One ARMY said, “idk i didnt want to talk abt snowdrop bc i KNOW blinks will twist it all to fit their victim mentality but its just depressing the way they're trying their best to sum this all up to "a fanwar"... like sure armys are in everyones business but this IS like... extremely different.” One fan said, “Blinks and armys are the dumbest f**ks bc one side can't take #Snowdrop criticism and the other side keep making it about themselves and their little fanwars when the issue is so much bigger.” One more fan said, “Case in point: blinks are fixating more on the fact that armys are participating in the snowdrop discourse rather than focusing on how their darling fave is now becoming an alt right icon. you do you, guys.
