'The Voice' Knockouts sees Peyton Kyle face off with Austin Gilbert — and Reba McEntire makes a tough call
With stellar performances and intense competition, the stakes are getting higher than ever on 'The Voice' Season 28. The latest episode of the singing competition opened with the knockout performance between Team Reba's Peyton Kyle and Austin Gilbert. With their distinct singing styles, the duo left no stone unturned in impressing coach Reba McEntire. However, at the end, only one went ahead in the competition, making for another heartbreaking 'The Voice' moment.
On Monday, November 24, Team Reba's first battle of the night paired Gilbert, a singer she recently stole, with Kyle, one of the earliest artists to join her team. McEntire noted that the two have completely different styles, but both are strong vocalists in their own ways, as per Entertainment Now. Gilbert chose 'Eight Second Ride' by Jake Owen because he loves energising the audience and wanted a song that lets him move around and connect with the crowd, as per Entertainment Now.
Peyton, on the other hand, went with 'I Don't Want To Be' by Gavin DeGraw. He explained that people often push him toward country music, but this song reflects who he actually wants to be as an artist. When he stepped on stage, he immediately showed off a strong rocker edge in his voice. His tone was gritty, unique, and enjoyable to listen to. While his song choice felt a little safe, he made up for it with big, confident notes at the end that showed off his power and range. Gilbert delivered a lively performance with strong stage presence and pure country style.
The coaches praised both artists, with Michael Bublé saying they "left nothing," and Snoop Dogg calling Gilbert "perfect." Niall Horan appreciated Gilbert's rockier edge while noting Kyle's versatility. McEntire added that Gilbert consistently delivers, while Kyle has been one of her favorites from the start. She then ultimately chose Kyle as the winner, saying he simply has the voice the show is looking for. Notably, 'The Voice' Season 28 finale will not only reveal the new winner but also include special performances. People announced that Khalid and girl group XG will perform on Tuesday, December 16, with XG set to sing 'GALA,' while Khalid's song remains undisclosed.
XG, made up of Jurin, Chisa, Hianta, Harvey, Juria, Maya, and Cocona, will make their US TV debut on 'The Voice.' The group first debuted in 2022 with 'Tippy Toes', and later charted on the Billboard 200 with their mini album 'AWE'. Meanwhile, Khalid recently released his new studio album, 'After the Sun Goes Down', in October.
