What are the new categories added to 65th Grammy Awards?
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Songwriter Of The Year (Non-Classical) and Best Score Soundtrack For Video Games And Other Interactive Media categories, among other new categories and changes, are among the five new Grammy Awards categories that will be presented at the 65th Grammy Awards in 2023, as announced by the Recording Academy. In addition, a new Special Merit Award for Best Song For Social Change will be presented.
"We're so excited to honor these diverse communities of music creators through the newly established awards and amendments, and to continue cultivating an environment that inspires change, progress and collaboration," Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr said. "The Academy's top priority is to effectively represent the music people that we serve, and each year, that entails listening to our members and ensuring our rules and guidelines reflect our ever-evolving industry."

What are the newly added categories?
Award for Best Non-Classical Songwriter: Honors the most prolific non-performing and non-producing songwriters for their body of new material released during an eligible year and recognizes the written excellence, profession, and art of songwriting.
Best performance of alternative music: A single category and track that honors the top recordings of an alternative performance by a well-known solo artist, duo, group, or collaborator.
Greatest performance of Americana: A song and a single category that honors outstanding artistic achievement in an Americana performance by a solo performer, collaborating artists, seasoned duo, seasoned group, or seasoned collaboration.
Best Video Game and Interactive Media Score Soundtrack: Recognizes excellence in soundtrack CDs that are primarily original scores composed for current video games or other interactive media that were released within the qualification period.
Best Poetry Album in Spoken Word: An album category that honors the best spoken word albums that feature poetry spoken aloud, either with or without music.
Why were the new categories added?
As part of the Recording Academy's commitment to adapt to the rapidly changing musical scene, these revisions are the result of the organization's annual process of receiving recommendations from the music professionals and creators who make up its membership body, as reported by Grammy.com.
MEAWW previously reported Beyonce leads all candidates with nine nominations. Kendrick Lamar is second with eight, followed by Adele and balladeer Brandi Carlile, both with seven. Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z are now tied for the most Grammy nominations in history, with 88 each.
