LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Making a horror movie is never easy, and remaking one of the finest horror films of all time is even harder. In recent times, filmmakers and producers like James Wan and Jason Blum have reinvented the genre with terrifying movies like ‘Insidious’, ‘The Conjuring’ and more. However, the stakes are higher this time around because Blum is set to take things to a whole new level with the official sequel to the classic film, ‘The Exorcist’. While making an appearance at this year’s CinemaCon, Blue, and filmmaker David Gordon Green revealed the title of the upcoming movie and shared the first footage from the high-profile sequel.

Titled ‘The Exorcist: Believer,’ the movie primarily focuses on two school friends going missing from school in the most eerie manner. However, when they are found in the woods, they seemed changed and unaware that they were gone for three days. Things start to go downhill when it is realized that both young girls have become victims of demonic possession. The footage shown during Universal’s panel at CinemaCon begins with a father (Leslie Odom Jr.) playing a father whose daughter and her best friend go missing for three days in the woods. The two teenage girls become the victims of demonic possession, getting facially deformed as the days go by. As the footage continues, viewers see one of the girls interrupting a church session in the daytime while she walks down the aisle covered in Blood and speaking in the voice of a demon for the first time ever.

Terrifying footage sees two young girls getting possessed

She screamed “The Body and the Blood” at the priest. Soon, scars begin to appear on the faces of both young girls and things begin to get worse.

The footage ends with Ellen Burstyn’s Chris MacNeil making an appearance and going face-to-face against one of the possessed girls and tells, “We've met before.” This sentence is much more than just a mere dialogue and makes us believe that ‘Pazuzu’ is back. Pazuzu is the demon that possessed MacNeil’s daughter Regan in the original film.

The footage concludes with both the girls tied together and connected to heart monitors. Soon, their heartbeats start to sync in a frightening final shot of both the girls giving horrifying screams.

Apart from Leslie Odom Jr. and Chris MacNeil, the film also stars Ann Down in a pivotal role.

'The Exorcist' has an extraordinary legacy

The original ‘Exorcist’ movie was a massive hit and changed the genre forever.

Interestingly, the movie just opened in 24 theatres in North America and despite getting mixed reviews, audiences flocked to the theatres to watch the classic film. Soon, the movie started gathering steam and became one of the finest films of all time. It was the first horror movie to be nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

As of 2019, the movie earned over $441.3 million globally and was the highest-grossing R-rated film until 2017’s ‘It’.
