Showtime just premiered its neo-noir thriller 'We Hunt Together' and Episode 1 has been an interesting start. A nightclub bathroom aide spots a young girl getting manhandled by an older man. Baba (Dipo Ola) rushes to the girl, Freddy Lane's (Hermoine Corfield) aid, initially just confronting the situation and later beating up the old man to a pulp in the streets outside the pub. Freddy doesn't report the incident and sparks a fling with Baba and when confronted by the older man, she decides to kill him with Baba. But three days later, when DS Lola Franks (Eve Myles) comes across the same older man's body, she narrows down on four prime suspects - one of them being Freddy. Now what?

As the official synopsis for the episode reveals, "When former child soldier Baba rescues Freddy from a sexual assault, something dark is ignited in them. DS Lola Franks and DI Jackson Mendy investigate the murder of the pair's first victim." Doesn't take long for us to figure out that the two oddball couples are linked with the same death. At the end of the episode, after establishing that she needs her personal boundaries intact, Lola is finally able to jot down the few women who this murder victim frequently got in touch with. Freddy's photo from the phone sex service website she works at comes up and it's obvious, Lola will hunt her down. The real question is whether there is any getting out for Freddy.

The first episode is a vivid portrayal of how in protecting Freddy, Baba embraced his own dark, twisted murderous instincts. But was it absolutely necessary to kill the man? He attempted to rape Freddy and that earns all the wrath for his scummy, cocky behavior. But how dangerous could he be? Without looking further, it's best to assume this older man was a bad guy with contacts. If Freddy did not get Baba to kill him, he would get his men to kill these two. So Freddy decided to ambush him, lure him with some bondage, and cuff him upside down lying on his bed as Baba, almost as if entranced, dug a knife deep into the older man's nape.

As Lola's new overly cheery boss and DI, Jackson (Babou Ceesay) observed from the crime scene, the killer really wanted to humiliate the victim and left them out in the open, naked with nothing but a ball gag in his mouth and socks on his feet. On one hand, there is this man's possible contacts who could be expected to hunt down his killers, on the other hand, this is this malicious charm to Freddy, where she can manipulate others to ride out her own dark fantasies. It is expected she and Baba would go into hiding next, but whether the killings will stop is something only Episode 2 will tell.

'We Hunt Together' airs on Sundays at 10 pm ET/PT only on Showtime.
