'Warrior Nun' to 'The Midnight Club,' here are 5 fan-favorite series cancelled by Netflix in 2022

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix has been cutting off series unhesitantly that don't serve them right. Most of them got canceled by one of the biggest streaming giants because of low viewership records. Speaking of viewership records, Jenna Ortega starring 'Wednesday' has been a blockbuster for Netflix as within three weeks of release, it became the second-most watched English-language Netflix series. Furthermore, it is giving neck-to-neck competition to the Duffer brothers' sci-fi series 'Stranger Things' Season 4's viewership record. As of now, no series has been able to beat it but time will tell if the coming-of-age supernatural mystery comedy horror series can beat the Millie Bobby Brown starring series.

Netflix chief Peter Friedlander recently confessed that even though they care deeply about all the series and the hard work which has been put into them by the directors, actors, and other crew members, "cancellation" is a part of the streaming giant's job if the series does not show a fruitful result. However, read more to find out the top five fan-favorite series canceled by Netflix in 2022.

1) 'Warrior Nun'

'Warrior Nun' is a fantasy drama streaming television series created by Simon Barry based on the comic book character 'Warrior Nun Areala' by Ben Dunn. When the series debuted first in 2020, it met with generally positive reviews from fans and critics. However, the second season couldn' replicate the same leave of success and saw relatively low viewership. As a result, the streaming platform stunned the fans with the announcement that the series will not be returning after the second season.

2) 'The Midnight Club'

After three massive hits, Mike Flanagan hit a pit stop with 'The Midnight Club.' The highly anticipated series was based on the renowned author, Christopher Pike's novel of the same name. 'The Midnight Club' premiered on Netflix in October, during the Halloween season. Unlike all three of Flanagan's previous series, it is not a miniseries and was intended to last several seasons. However, in December 2022, the series was canceled after one season and Flanagan revealed everything that was supposed to happen in Season 2. The cancelation also coincides with the fact that Flanagan has taken his overall deal away from Netflix over to Prime Video.

3) 'Raising Dion'

'Raising Dion' is a superhero drama that premiered in 2019 on Netflix. It is based on the 2015 comic book and a short film of the same name by Dennis Liu. In an Instagram post, actress Sammi Haney revealed the real reason for the cancellation.

The caption reads, "Sad to say that 'Raising Dion' is CANCELED [sic] Thank you for all of the amazing support we got from all of our wonderful fans! Season 2 was a success, equal to Season 1, even if just looking at how many people watched all of it and wanted a season 3!”

4) 'First Kill'

The supernatural teen drama series created by Victoria Schwab premiered in June, 2022, on Netflix. The series is based on Schwab's short story of the same name. However, Netflix canceled the teen vampire drama 'First Kill' in August after its one and only season that launched in June. Series creator Felicia D. Henderson blamed the cancellation, in part, on poor marketing and a focus on the lesbian romance at the center of the series.

“The art for the initial marketing was beautiful,” Henderson told in an interview with The Daily Beast. “I think I expected that to be the beginning and that the other equally compelling and important elements of the show – monsters vs. monster hunters, the battle between two powerful matriarchs, etc. – would eventually be promoted, and that didn’t happen.”

5) 'Fate: The Winx Saga'

'Fate: The Winx Saga' is a teen drama series based on the Nickelodeon animated series 'Winx Club,' created by Iginio Straffi. Although the six-episode first season was watched by 57 million subscribers in the first 28 days of its release, the show couldn't manage to woo the fans when it came back for another season. The second editionpremiered on September 16, 2022. At the start of November, the showrunner of the teen fantasy series sadly revealed the news that the show would not be returning despite relatively strong performance compared to other Netflix shows that got renewed for a third season. According to Variety, Brian J Young uploaded a social media post that revealed why was the series canceled.

He said, “This is especially tough because I know how many of you loved this season. It’s a heartbreaking silver lining, but a silver lining all the same. I’m so proud of everyone who worked on the show, and so happy we got to tell the stories we did.”
