Ian Somerhalder's 'V Wars' released its first season on Netflix on December 5 to the delight of Ian Somerhalder fan who had been missing seeing him as Damon Salvatore on their screens.

Starring Somerhalder, Adrian Holmes, Kimberly-Sue Murray, and Laura Vandervoort, 'V Wars' follows the release of an ancient pathogen that unlocks the gene causing vampirism in some humans, leading society to get divided into two factions.

The first season consists of 10 episodes and shows best friends Dr. Luther Swann (Somerhalder) and Michael Fayne (Holmes) on opposite sides as Michael ends up being Patient Zero and becomes the leader for the underground vampire faction, while Luther strives to find a cure.

Early reactions for the show are in and though Somerhalder's biggest fans are loving his new turn as the human in a vampire show, most viewers have not given favorable reviews.

One fan tweeted, "So I have watched all of #VWars in one day and all I’m gonna say is, I need season 2 already. @iansomerhalder great work! It is such an incredible show. Strongly recommend it to anyone."

Viewers agreed that Adrian Holmes is the breakout star of the series based on his performance as Michael Fayne. A viewer wrote, "Adrian Holmes is a breath of fresh air. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he brings for the rest of the season. #VWars."

However, some viewers had an issue with the political undertone of the series, with one commenting, "Maybe I read too many politically correct tweets, but V Wars rubs me the wrong way."

"If they flipped the roles between the two friends (white protagonist and black side/antagonist), this show might have been more interesting for me. #VWars #VWarsTV," the fan added.

However, some viewers did not think 'V Wars' offered the fresh take on vampires it promised, with one saying, "I tried watching #VWars on @Netflix but it's so bad. Another take on the vampire genre but has no depth whatsoever."

All episodes of the first season of 'V Wars' are now streaming on Netflix.
