Antisemitism or ignorance? Twice's Chaeyoung apologizes for swastika t-shirt days after wearing Qanon top
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: K-pop sensation Chaeyoung recently received criticism for wearing t-shirts featuring Nazi and QAnon emblems. The 23-year-old Son Chae-young, better known by her stage name Chaeyoung, has subsequently admitted that she was unaware of the significance of those symbols and has apologized on Instagram for her poor fashion choices.
Chaeyoung, a member of the renowned South Korean girl group 'TWICE', shared a photo of herself wearing a top with a Nazi swastika and Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols. She removed the image and posted an apology in its place when her fans pointed out the objectionable content. This apology comes only a few days after she received a similar backlash for wearing a top featuring QAnon symbols. Chaeyoung donned a cropped blouse with a Q-shaped cutout of the American flag and an excerpt of the phrase "Where we go one, we go all" during TWICE's performance on MBC's 'Show! Music Core' over the weekend.

'I deeply apologize for not thoroughly reviewing it'
Chaeyoung learned what her attire stood for as Twitter users quickly pointed out that the design alludes to the far-right political movement QAnon. The political movement is infamous for promoting unfounded conspiracy theories and defending former president Donald Trump.
Expressing her regret for her recent fashion choices, Chaeyoung wrote, "Hello, this is Chaeyoung from TWICE. I sincerely apologize regarding the Instagram post. I didn't correctly recognize the meaning of the tilted swastika in the t-shirt I wore."
"I deeply apologize for not thoroughly reviewing it, causing concern. I will pay absolute attention in the future to prevent any situation similar from happening again. Sincerely apologize again," Chaeyoung concluded.
'We will always support you, forever and ever!'
Many people have reacted to Chaeyoung's apology on Instagram with one person writing, "We will always support you, forever and ever!" Another follower wrote, "Anti-semetism in kpop is way too overlooked. Chaeyoung wearing a q-anon AND a nazi shirt two days in a row, BOTH BEING ANTI SEMETIC, STOP hiding this and mind you these her OWN clothes."
A third person wrote, "Not everyone knows EVERYTHING and that includes HISTORY. these subjects are NOT mandatory in schools and at most schools teach you history only about your country." Another person wrote, "Honestly, it's 2023. Can people stop clapping for this apology? She's 23 years old and should've been educated on this subject." One disappointed person wrote, "I am so disappointed by this situation honestly and idk what’s worse this half arsed apology or these comments…"
