'TWICE Forever' trends as all 9 members renew contracts, fans ask 'is Tzuyu leaving?'

Over the last few weeks, a lot of chatter had been surrounding the nine-member girl group from JYP Entertainment and the alleged mistreatment members of TWICE had been facing while being a part of the third-gen girl group. TWICE made its debut in 2015 and slowly but steadily came to become one of the few biggest girl groups in K-pop. Despite having flourishing Korean and Japanese careers, members have just started their solo music journeys as of 2022 with Nayeon being the only member of TWICE to make a solo debut. Now as TWICE members' futures seem much more inviting for fans as the girl group takes over the world with sold-out international locations one after the other, Onces have more reason to rejoice.

On July 12 it was revealed that TWICE had broken the seven-year curse and had promised to continue with the girl group by renewing their contracts with JYP Entertainment. Since most K-pop contracts are seven years long, the term is a 'make-it-or-break-it' event for groups. Fans are either met with news about groups disbanding or renewing their contracts with their existing labels after their seven-year contracts are matured. Special cases have seen some members leave their old labels and sign on with a new label and continue with their groups. Another special case is GOT7 where all members left JYPE and signed on with different labels while still continuing on with the boy group. TWICE has made a promise to stay with fans by choosing to renew their contracts with JYPE and fans are thanking the members for the same.

TWICE members renew their contracts with JYP Entertainment

In the official announcement from JYP Entertainment, it was finally revealed that all nine members of TWICE had renewed their contracts with the label. JYP Entertainment said, "TWICE completed the renewal of contracts with all members ahead of the expiration of their exclusive contract this fall." Since TWICE made their debuts in October of 2015, their contracts were not due for renewal until October of 2022 but the members have re-signed with JYP Entertainment based on their trust in the label. The label added, "This trust in JYP Entertainment has become a strong support for their growth as a representative girl group"  The label added, "We plan to give our full support to TWICE as they grow as a global top girl group." 

The girl group made their debut in October of 2015 and made news after winning the grand prize (Daesang) at various music awards ceremonies over the years. TWICE has also sold over 10 million albums in Korea and Japan as they became the fastest girl group to host a solo concert in Japan's Tokyo Dome. Over the years, TWICE also entered international charts like 'Billboard 200' 'Billboard Hot 100' and more as they established themselves as Korea's representative girl group.

Fans are sharing their joy about all TWICE members renewing their contracts with JYP by trending TWICE Forever on Twitter. One fan said, "OUR 9 GIRLS WILL CONTINUE SAVING US FROM THE SADNESS AND MISERY IN THIS WORLD!! THANK YOU TWICE!! WE LOVE U ALL SO MUCHH!!! TWICE FOREVER." One fan joked, "Don't stop at twice renewal contract. let’s do a twice movie. twice trilogy. twice documentary. twice cinematic universe. twice theme park. twice island. twice planet. twice forever."

Will Tzuyu leave TWICE in three years?

Despite such positive news about TWICE staying together and renewing their contracts with JYP Entertainment, some fans are pointing out that Tzuyu, the Chinese-born member of the girl group will only stay on with TWICE for another three years. In an unofficial report from a Taiwanese news outlet from February, it was reported that unlike the other members of TWICE, Tzuyu will only be renewing her contract with the label for another three years. While the actual tenure of TWICE members' new contracts is not revealed, it is rumored that all members except Tzuyu have renewed their contracts for five more years. After being constantly mistreated by JYP Entertainment, it is alleged that Tzuyu will be leaving the label by 2025. The report stated, "According to Twainese press in February, eight members renewed for five years with Tzuyu renewing for three."

It seems like fans are not happy with the report as they call out OP (Original Poster) saying, "This has been going on for months already and none of it was confirmed. Didn’t that same press also state tzuyu might not be renewing? What happened then?" One more fan asked, "And the source is what? The voices in their heads?" One fan said, "Didn't taiwanese press said tzuyu will be probably not renewing? what happened?" One fan of Tzuyu said, "Its not like tzuyu is getting treated nicely in korean albums. neither proper center nor lines nor screentime... so staying or leaving in twice is not something I really care about." One more fan said, "DONT MESS WITH OUR SPECIAL DAY WHO GONNA BELIEVE SOMEONE WRITE FROM FEBRUARY ITS FUVKING JULY ALREADY." Another fan said, "If it isn’t from jype themselves then i don’t wanna hear it."
