Incubus get rave reviews for new EP 'Trust Fall (Side B)', fans say they 'can’t stop listening to it'
Incubus has released their powerful new EP 'Trust Fall (Side B)' on April 17, a glorious five-track installment that is sure to please even hardcore Incubus fans.
The new record follows the EP with similar naming, 'Trust Fall (Side A)', which released in May 2015. The American alternative rock band from Calabasas, California released their latest studio album '8' in 2017.
Incubus gained prominence in the '90s for being one of the first bands to be recognized with the descriptions "smooth" and "rock" in the same sentence, pulling out frequent hits like 'Drive', 'Wish You Were Here' and 'Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)'. It also helps that frontman Brandon Boyd's utterly amazing, silky-smooth vocals were highlighted in songs, post-'90s, like 'Are You In?' and 'Love Hurts'.
With the evolution of music tech, the new EP reveals a surprisingly rich texture to the band's music. The opening track 'Karma, Come Back' instantly reveals a lot more effects on the music since the band's earlier productions, but that kick-in-your-chest rock still makes hardcore fans go weak. 'Into The Summer' brings that surf rock escapism, similarly to 'Wish You Were Here', only with twangy guitar and a thick funky bassline in music similar to a classic Red Hot Chilli Pepper's party track. 'On Without Me' reveals the epic range of Boyd's vocals, from gruff bassy lows in the verses to powerful highs in the chorus in one of the harder tracks on the EP.
Incubus shared the announcement on Twitter with a personal note: "#TrustFallSideB is out!!! We’ve been so excited for you all to hear it. Do you have a favorite track already???" they wrote.
Fans shot the comments out fast with their favorite number. In line with one fan's comment, "Honestly, the whole thing," it seems fans can't find a track they don't like, as every song was chosen as a favorite by individual fans. A fan even deemed 'Karma, Come Back' as their "all-time favorite song from Incubus, to which a fan responded, "Same ! Can’t stop listening to it." One fan says, "It's all I've listened to since waking up" while another wrote, "Listening now! Loving it!" Another fan felt it paired well with its partner EP, saying, "I love it! It fits well with Side A as well! Everyone should listen to them together!"
Incubus just recently finished their '20 Years of Make Yourself & Beyond' anniversary tour in December. According to JamBase, the band will also be touring this 2020 with 311, but have postponed several dates due to the coronavirus pandemic.
