Trevor Noah slammed for comparing Grammys 2021 to Capitol riots, viewers say 'not funny, people died there'

TV host Trevor Noah jokingly compared the Grammys to Capitol Riots, calling two events, the biggest ‘outdoor’ gathering. He said, “Tonight is gonna be the biggest outdoor event this year besides the storming of the Capitol.”

The 63rd edition of the Grammys, hosted by Trevor Noah is taking place on Sunday, March 14, and within minutes of starting, the ceremony has managed to draw flak for a number of reasons. From Trevor Noah joking about Capitol Riots to BTS ARMY slamming recording academy for award snub, the award show can’t escape the outrage of social media users. 

While hosting the Grammys, TV host Trevor Noah jokingly compared the Grammys to Capitol Riots, calling two events, the biggest ‘outdoor’ gathering. He said, “Tonight is gonna be the biggest outdoor event this year besides the storming of the Capitol.”

Trevor Noah cracked some more jokes about the Grammys, saying, “This isn’t a Zoom background; this is real,” adding, My uncle isn’t gonna walk behind me naked even though I told him I have an important meeting.” Noah also nudged the Meghan Markle controversies saying, “There’s more tension in that tent than at a family reunion at Buckingham Palace.”

However, the jokes of comparing Capitol Riots to Grammys did not sit well with the viewers as many slammed the award show, calling it 'absolutely worst' and reminding that people had died there. A user said, "Absolutely the worst Grammys. The set -up... Not so much!" Another stated, "Not funny people died there." A viewer declared, "He is not that damn funny. Sheesh!" A user said, 'Lost me on that one!'



 



 



 



 

Earlier, the 'Daily Show' host shared his excitement about hosting the Grammys. He told Billboard, “An awards show is very different from ‘The Daily Show,'” and added, “we’re speaking to a broader audience, it’s not politics. I’m not there to do politics, I’m there to do music.” The 37-year-old South African native stated, “Hopefully this can be a respite from that for a moment and then we’ll be like, ‘Oh yeah, that was the beginning of when we got to start living our lives again.'”

Grammys 2021, officially known as the 63rd Grammy Awards, took place Sunday, March 14, at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT.
