The finale of 'Treadstone' season 1 is about two things. One is CIA Agent Dan Levine's (Michael Gaston) need to tie up loose ends and second is to stop Yuri (Merab Ninidze) from handing the nuclear warhead over to Colonel Shin (Jong-Hyuk Lee) and his men. To tie up loose ends, Levine begins by instructing a team to head out to Amsterdam, where Agent Matt Edwards (Omar Metwally) is currently staying in hopes of getting international support to dig deep into operation Treadstone, and the Cicadas who are involved. Levine wants to remove the threat before it expands any further with data leaked to people who may not have the US' best interests at heart.

The reason why undercover Tara Coleman (Tracy Ifeachor), also a cicada was woken up, wants to remove Yuri out of the equation is to partly ensure that the North Korean government official Colonel Shin, doesn't get his hands on nuclear technology. While Tara is busy trying to bring Yuri down, Levine has planned an attack on Yuri's place Cyprus where the warhead is being contained. He is working based on the information that he had got from SoYun and with the help of a team, Levine manages to get the warhead contained. However, Yuri escapes. He hears from Senator Eamon Wray (Tim Ahern) that the operation against him was unsanctioned and Ellen Becker could possibly take the fall for this.

Doug McKenna (Brian J Smith), who is currently living the life of one of the trusted cicadas is in Mexico to kill a man who is hindering mining in the country. Doug's wife Sam (Tess Haubrich), on the other hand, tries to convince her boss at the CIA that she had no choice now but to reach out to him because she felt that Doug was not strong enough. Before things start going sideways, Sam is trying to learn how much the CIA knows about Doug and there doesn't seem to be much. So when her boss informs her that Doug, Sam's husband, is dead she puts on a show to help the CIA believe. Doug, on the other hand, fails to kill his target but instead fools the CIA into thinking that he did.

Agent Edwards is in Amsterdam to meet with an agent Van Roon, but to neutralize Edwards, Levine sends Stephen Haynes (Patrick Fugit). He is an asset who should have been dead, so his appearance lets Edwards know about something being off. You see, Haynes was reprogrammed into Operation Treadstone. Haynes almost kills Agent Edwards but stops his attack when he is addressed by his first name. At that moment, when he hesitates, Haynes is taken out for real this time and by Tara who was sent by Becker. Levine believes that the gunshot took out Edwards, as they have lost visual of the scene.

Edwards, after learning that Tara is Cicada, asks her help in stopping Treadstone because the operation has now become corrupt. But before they do anything at all, they would have to disappear, says Tara.

Becker, on the other hand, gets invited or more like kidnapped to attend a meeting with Senator Wray. What she doesn't know is the fact that Levine has been taken out by Nira Patel, a cicada.

SoYun (Han Hyo-joo) returns to Pyongyang only to learn that Colonel Shin has manipulated her mother and her husband into giving up her son. They believe that little Jisoo has been chosen to be a part of a special program, very similar to hers. She is shocked because neither her husband Dae, nor her mother understands the gravity of what their decision means.

Instead, the present sees the cicadas work on untangling themselves from an operation that they signed up to be a part of in what they consider is a different lifetime.

In the past, on the other hand, we see Petra (Emilia Schule) get captured by the CIA based on John Bentley (Jeremy Irwine) and Matheson's information after their escape from under Meisner's control. The CIA tries to get information from Petra about the Cicada Protocol, to further their own agenda, but Petra is not buying it. She is certain that John, wouldn't betray her, not after entering the lion's den in Russia when he went with her to meet Yuri. The CIA agent Kohler, who speaks to Petra, proves her wrong and shows her how John had always been on a mission. His mission was to bring Petra to the CIA, and now he has successfully completed it. Of course, all of it seems to have been a plant to confuse Petra.
