'Treadstone': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and everything you need to know about the 'Bourne' spin-off series

‘Treadstone’ will tell the story of Operation Treadstone, the fictional CIA black ops program that turned Jason Bourne into everyone’s favorite killing machine. The show has received a straight-to-series order from NBC Universal’s USA Network and is expected to premiere in the fall of 2019.

The ‘Bourne’ franchise is about to find a new life, this time as a spin-off show on NBC Universal’s USA Network. ‘Treadstone’ will tell the story of Operation Treadstone, the fictional CIA black ops program that turned Jason Bourne into everyone’s favorite killing machine. The show has received a straight-to-series order from the network and is expected to premiere in the fall of 2019.

Release Date:

While the actual date of the show’s premiere hasn’t been announced, USA Network revealed the premiere will be in October 2019.

‘Treadstone’ will be available exclusively on the USA Network.

Plot:

The series will follow the founding of Operation: Treadstone and its connections to the program’s present-day version which turned Bourne into the world’s best assassin. The show will be an action thriller that will take its characters (and the audience) to multiple locations across the world, while also looking into the mysterious procedure through which the program creates its agents.

Here’s the official premise of the show from the network’s website: “From a producer of the Bourne franchise, Treadstone is an action-packed thriller set amidst the CIA black ops program Operation: Treadstone. Exploring both the origin of the infamous covert program, as well as connecting to present-day special ops, Treadstone follows the action across the globe -- from D.C. to Berlin to Paris and beyond. Using a mysterious behavior-modification protocol, Treadstone turns its recruits around the world into nearly-superhuman assassins, following sleeper agents as they’re mysteriously 'awakened' to resume their dangerous missions.”

Jeremy Irvine

Irvine is an English actor best known for his role as Albert Narracott in the film 'War Horse'. According to Den of Geek, he will be playing J. Randolph Bentley, described as “a spy dispatched by the CIA to eliminate a key target, but ends up embroiled in an international conspiracy."

Other cast members of the show include Tracy Ifeachor ('Quantico') as Tara Coleman, Brian J. Smith ('Sense 8') as Doug McKenna, Omar Metwally ('The Affair') as Mr. Edwards, Han Hyo-joo ('W: Two Worlds') as SoYun, Gabrielle Scharnitzky ('The Game') as Petra, Emilia Schüle ('High Society') as a KGB agent, Michelle Forbes ('Star Trek: The Next Generation') as Ellen Becker, Michael Gaston ('Strange Angel') as Dan Levine and Shruti Haasan ('Race Gurram') as Nira Patel along with Patrick Fugit ('Outcast') and Tess Haubrich ('Wolf Creek') in supporting roles

Kring is an American screenwriter and television producer, best known for his work on shows like ‘Strange World’, ‘Crossing Jordan’, ‘Heroes’, and ‘Touch’. He will be serving as the series showrunner and will also write for the show.

Kring will also be an executive producer for the series, alongside Ramin Bahrani, Ben Smith, Jeffrey Weiner, Justin Levy, Bradley Thomas and Dan Friedkin. The world of ‘Treadstone’ is based on the ‘Bourne’ books written by Robert Ludlum.

The trailer for ‘Treadstone’ describes the program’s agents as “a cadre of sleeper agents deployed under normal cover lives with no memory of their training.” The events of the series are set in motion when a mysterious individual or organization begins waking up the agents for unknown purposes. The trailer teases a lot of intense action scenes and a deep conspiracy that could change the world forever.
