'Trackers': Meet the cast who play characters based on Deon Meyer's 2011 crime novel on the Cinemax show
Packed with thrills and chills, 'Trackers' is an adaptation of Deon Meyer's crime novel and the six-episode drama series has been shot entirely in South Africa. The Cinemax series interweaves three story strands into a sophisticated action-packed thriller that covers the length and breadth of the country. The official summary reveals the plot explosively collides in Cape Town in a violent conspiracy involving organized crime, smuggled diamonds, state security, black rhinos, the CIA and an international terrorist plot. The six episodes have been shot by '13 Reasons Why' fame cinematographer Ivan Strasburg and directed by 'Bordertown' fame Jyri Kähönen. Rolanda Marais as Milla Strachan
South African actress Rolanda Marais is known for her roles in 'Global Effect' (2002), 'Wolwedans in die Skemer' (2012) and 'Poppie Nongena' (2019). She plays housewife-turned-spy Milla Strachan, "A 40-year-old woman who leaves her husband, her resentful son, and life of luxury after enduring years of abuse." After struggling to find a job, she is forced to take a journalism job in a government agency.
James Gracie as Lemmer
The actor is known for his roles in 'The Gamechangers' (2015) and Siberia (2018). In the show, Gracie plays Lemmer, a former Special Forces member, and ministerial bodyguard. Lemmer resides in Loxton (a small town in the Karoo). In the story, a failed intelligence operation leads to the termination of his employment and he goes back to fixing an old house and resolving his anger issues.
Sandi Schultz as Janina Mentz
Sandi Schulz started with theatre and was soon seen in shows like 'NYPD Blue' and 'City of Angels' during 12 years in Los Angeles. In 2005, she returned to South Africa and played one of the leads, Dr. Jennifer Adams in the KykNet/M-Net series, 'Binnelanders'. She has also been a part of films and TV projects like 'While You Weren't Looking', 'Rosa 2' and 'Hotel for Kyknet'. In 'Trackers', she plays Janina, who is the Presidential Bureau of Intelligence's director. Active in the country's liberation struggle, she is against corruption and anyone who undermines the country's independence.
Thapelo Mokoena as Quinn Makebe
Mokoena is a South African actor known for presenting the first season of the South African version of 'Fear Factor' in 2005. He was also seen in 'Wild at Heart' from 2007 to 2012 and played a key role in the 2013 film 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom'. In the series, he plays Quinn Makebe, who is the COO of the PBI. Clever, educated and ambitious, his character works closely with Janina.
The series also stars Tamer Burjaq as Tahir, Trix Vivier as Flea van Jaarsveld, Ed Stoppard as Lucas Becker, and Sisanda Henna as Inkunzi Shabangu. ‘Trackers’ will premiere on Friday, June 5, at 10 pm ET/PT on Cinemax.
