The thing with a few musicians is first they make us fall in love with their work, they continue dropping fan-favorite music and some fine day they simply vanish into thin air leaving their fans asking for more. This feeling can be a bit tricky for the listeners because no one knows whether they are going to come back and hit the studio again or whether they have hung up their boots for good. Whatever might be the reason, the die-hard fans would always want their favorite artistes to come back and re-ignite the long lost fire.

As 2020 is coming to end, we list down the top 10 artistes we would want to see making a comeback in 2021.

Rihanna

The very first name in the list, Rihanna, is a no-brainer here. The 32-year-old Barbadian singer released her last album in 2016 in the form of ‘ANTI’ and since then she has really tested the patience of her loyal fans. RiRi has been teasing her listeners for the last four years but all in vain. She did collaborate with other artistes dropping one or two singles every year after her album release but nothing really substantial dropped from her end. In 2020, fans could only hear Rihanna on one song and that too was a collaboration with Canadian rapper PartyNextDoor, Drake and Bad Bunny on the song ‘Believe It.’ Since 2016, the singer has spent a lot of time paying attention to her Fenty lingerie and make-up line.

In February, Rihanna revealed that she was back in the recording studio, making music with Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, who make up the producing duo The Neptunes. She later told Entertainment Tonight in July, "I ready to put it out in the way that I feel fit, it’s gonna come out,” adding, “And you’re not going am always working on music. I am always working on music and when I am to be disappointed when it happens. It’s going to be worth it. I’m not just gonna put it out just because people are waiting. It’s taken this long, I’m gonna make it worth it.”

Daft Punk

French electronic music duo Daft Punk consisting of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter was formed in Paris in 1993 but it was between 2005 and 2016 when the duo peaked with their commercial success after dropping bangers like ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger', ‘Around the World', Digital Love', ‘Get Lucky’ with Pharell Williams and Nile Rodgers or ‘Starboy’ and ‘I Feel It Coming’ with the pop icon The Weeknd. From winning Grammy awards to charting on Billboard, they did it all.

Even though their last album ‘Random Access Memories’ came in the year 2013, rumors were rife in 2020, according to various fan blogs that Daft Punk might drop new music this year but so far all fans have got is disappointment. All we can do is plug into their old songs and wait for their return. Sigh!!!

Adele

In a career spanning more than a decade, Adele has already won every accolade possible which a musician dreams of. With multiple Grammys, Brit Awards and an Academy Award in her kitty, the 32-year-old crooner has so far treated her fans with three albums namely ‘19’ in 2008, ‘21’ in 2011 and ‘25’, which came out in 2015 and that was it. It has been five years since her last album and her fan army is looking forward to another project.

According to CapitalFM, when she performed at a friend’s wedding in February 2020, she joked, “Expect my album in September," a month which quickly came and went and unfortunately nothing happened. However, she most recently debuted as a host on ‘Saturday Night Live’ and rumors were rife again that fans might get to hear some new music from the award-winning singer very soon.

In a piece of good news, Adele did give a hint to her fans after she shared a lengthy post thanking the ‘Saturday Night Live’ crew following her appearance on the show. One of the lines from her Instagram post said, “I am going back to my cave now to be the (single) cat lady that I am! Peace out till next year.” This excited the fans on the Internet with the possibility of the singer dropping a fresh album in 2021.

Britney Spears

If it wasn’t for her legal issues, we still might have seen Britney Spears hitting the studio and entertaining her fans with her signature pop music. From experiencing a breakdown in the midst of professional and personal struggles to facing a lot of heat from the paparazzi, the 38-year-old crooner has seen it all in her long decorated career. She might currently be active on Instagram amid the #FreeBritney movement, which seeks to remove the pop star from under her father Jamie Spears's conservatorship, but we haven’t heard any music from her since ‘Glory’ days in 2016.

According to the website The Blast, a source spilled the beans to Hollywood Life in April 2020 saying, “Britney has no plans to make any new music anytime soon. Britney does share with those close to her that she would like to make a comeback in music one day again, but she’s nowhere near that.” We can only hope that she returns with a bang in 2021.

Outkast

Labeled as one of the greatest and most influential hip hop duos of all time, Outkast is an American hip-hop duo formed in 1992. Atlanta-based rappers Andre 3000 Benjamin and Antwan “Big Boi” Patton made Outkast a popular name with the help of their intricate lyricism, memorable melodies and positive messages. Fans have been longing for their return since the duo dropped their last album ‘Idlewind’ in 2006.

The Grammy award-winning duo, who achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, has not dropped any music since their last outing in 2006. Andre 3000 admitted he’s got no plans for new music right now, citing a lack of confidence and motivation for a creative drought. "I haven’t been making much music, man. My focus is not there. My confidence is not there. I’ll just go to a piano and sit my iPhone down and just record what I’m doing. Move my fingers around and whatever happens, but I haven’t been motivated to do a serious project.” We really hope he gets the inspiration very soon and treats his loyal fans with some tasteful music.

Lorde

The 23-year-old crooner from New Zealand first shot to fame at the age of 16 with her debut album ‘Pure Heroine’ in 2013 followed by another album in 2017 titled ‘Melodrama'. She has been underground ever since, and fans have been asking her on various occasions to make new music at the earliest. Lorde, who still has a long way to go in her musical journey, is already a two-time Grammy winner along with two Brit awards and a Golden Globe nominee among a few other accolades.

In a piece of good news, Variety reported in May that Lorde might come back sooner than expected with her third album. According to the publication, Lorde spoke to her fans in a chatty email wherein one of the lines she mentioned, “I started going back to the studio again in December, just for something to do, and to my surprise, good things came out. Happy, playful things. I felt my melodic muscles flexing and strengthening.”

Guns ‘N’ Roses

One of the most iconic rock bands in the world, Guns ‘N’ Roses, shot to fame in 1987 with their debut album ‘Appetite for Destruction’ and their last outing together with a studio album was in the form of ‘Chinese Democracy’ in 2008. The original members of the band include Axl Rose, Duff McKagan, Slash, Dizzy Reed, Richard Fortus, Frank Ferrer and Melissa Reese.

The journey of Guns ‘N’ Roses has been nothing less than a twisted plot of a Hollywood movie. The band went through a lot of inner turmoil with the members after their initial success along with drug-related controversies and several line-up changes. The award-winning squad still kept on going on tours where the latest being 2016 to 2019 called ‘Not in This Lifetime... Tour’ which also included former members Slash, Duff McKagan and Melissa Reese. Guns ‘N’ Roses were also scheduled for 2020-21 tour but it got pushed due to the global pandemic. Even if we keep hearing stories of the members jamming together every now and then, the prayers of fans would only be answered if they pull off another album in 2021.

Oasis

With their last outing as a band in 2008 with the seventh album ‘Dig Out Your Soul’, the English rock band had already sold over 75M records worldwide till then. Formed in 1991, the band originally consisted of Liam Gallagher (lead vocals, tambourine), Paul Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass guitar) and Tony McCarroll (drums). Liam's older brother Noel Gallagher (lead guitar, vocals) joined as a fifth member later on. The several line-up changes did disrupt the music-making process of Oasis before the band finally split in 2009.

However, according to Express UK, Liam Gallagher hinted at a possible reunion when he had tweeted in 2019, "After album no3 I’m gonna split up with myself I just don’t think I’ll be able to work with myself any longer I can write what I like and so can he but I think it’s for the best." He added, "I intend to retire as a solo artist after album no3 as I have just had a call from my brother begging me to start oasis again in 2022 if you believe in life after love c’mon you know LG x." Though fans want to hear new music from Oasis as soon as possible, 2022 doesn’t sound like a bad idea and who knows they might even drop music sooner than later.

My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance, also acronymized as MCR, may not have won a lot of awards but the American rock band did taste the mainstream commercial success with their albums like 2002’s ‘I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love’ and their most successful album till date ‘The Black Parade’ from the year 2006. The band parted their ways in 2013 but they came together for a reunion show in October 2019.

MCR consists of members Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Mikey Way, Frank Iero and they had again announced a tour for 2020 which got postponed due to Covid-19. They did drop an instrumental video in early 2020 and they also posted a few unreleased versions of their old songs on their official YouTube channel but if we talk about their fresh music, there is nothing in sight, as of now. We would certainly love to see the band making a comeback in 2021 for sure.

Gotye

Gotye, whose real name is Wouter "Wally" De Backer, is globally known for his one hit single ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ which was released in 2011 and ended up winning a Grammy and several other accolades. However, the 40-year-old musician who has released three independent albums so far, got infamous as a “one-hit wonder” as he failed to achieve the same success with his other songs and gradually faded away from the scene.

His last album titled ‘Making Mirrors’ was released in 2011 which makes it almost a decade since the fans got to hear a new project from the Australian crooner. Therefore, it won’t be wrong to wish for a comeback from him in 2021. The singer is also a founder of the Melbourne indie-pop trio The Basics, who last dropped their album in 2017 to celebrate the band’s 15-year anniversary, as reported by the website Wers. We really hope fans get to hear Gotye’s new music in 2021.
