'Thor: Love and Thunder' bringing in Beta Ray Bill could set up Fantastic Four villain Galactus's MCU entry
'Thor: Love and Thunder' may have been delayed to 2022 because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic but with new details about the movie being revealed by director Taika Waititi, our excitement is through the roof. From space sharks to Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, the female Thor, there are plenty of great things already confirmed for the movie but the best could still be on the way.
Fans have wanted to see Beta Ray Bill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for a long time. The character is a close ally of Thor in the comics and apparently a favorite of both Waititi and 'Thor' star Chris Hemsworth.
Waititi reportedly told a fan that he does want to see the character in 'Thor: Love and Thunder' but things are still up in the air, so it's too early for confirmation. "I love Beta Ray Bill," the Oscar-winning filmmaker revealed. "I’d love to have him in the film but I just don’t know right now, things are a little up in the air."
Hemsworth has spoken about his love for the character in the past, revealing that the story where Thor meets Bill for the first time was one of the very first comics he read to prepare for the role.
"That was one of the first comics I ever read," Hemsworth said at ACE Comic Con Midwest. "Yeah, I'd love that. I just hope they keep letting me have a crack at it."
While Bill's inclusion would be a real treat for the fans, it could also be used to bring in another popular MCU character who has been speculated as a potential big bad for the upcoming phases of Marvel movies. In the comics, Bill is an alien whose planet was consumed by Devourer of Worlds and Fantastic Four villain Galactus.
Bringing in Bill would be an excellent way to introduce Galactus and his heralds to the MCU, although perhaps only indirectly. Plus, that in turn could be a way to bring in the Fantastic Four whom fans have wanted to see in the MCU for ages.
'Thor: Love and Thunder' is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 18, 2022.
