There are some actors who will be remembered for that one iconic role, and for 'Thor: Love and Thunder' star Christian Bale, it will forever be the portrayal of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The Brit actor has managed to find a place in the pantheon of Hollywood greats by taking a series of roles that showcase his versatility, but in a recent interview, he revealed the idea of him playing a 'serious' Batman was laughed at.

Bale made heads turn with his first look as Gorr the God Butcher in 'Thor: Love and Thunder'. The antagonist is a galactic killer who seeks the extinction of the gods. His villainy is born out of pain and proves to be a formidable foe for Hemsworth's God of Thunder and Natalie Portman's Jane Foster who also plays Thor in the fourth installment.

Talking to Washington Post about Batman, Bale said he was laughed at, at the notion of playing a serious Dark Knight. His version of the character had lots of doubts where people laughed at him saying it wouldn't work when he told them about the role. "Well, that’s just not going to work at all," Bale told the outlet. "So it’s wonderful to be a part of a trilogy that proved those people wrong. I’m not certain if it kick-started [the MCU], but it certainly helped along the way."

As far as playing two comic book characters was concerned, Bale never ruled out the possibility of suiting up as a superhero or villain again. “I don’t have any goodbye and thank you, unless other people say to me ‘goodbye and thank you, please never revisit this again’ then I’ll take their word for it,” Bale explained. "But otherwise a good story is a good story. A good film is a good film. And a good director is a good director. And I’m open to any of those ideas."

Quite recently, Bale made headlines when he said he was open to playing Bruce Wayne again, but only on the condition that Christopher Nolan, the director of 'The Dark Knight' trilogy would return to helm the film. “I had a pact with Chris Nolan,” Bale added. “We said, ‘Hey, look, let’s make three films if we’re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let’s walk away. Let’s not linger too long.’ In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I’ve got another story to tell.’ And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.”

'Thor: Love and Thunder' is running in cinemas near you.
