Who is Thomas Middleditch's ex wife Mollie Gates? How the actor was dumped after saying 'swinging' saved marriage
Actor-comedian Thomas Middleditch has been accused of sexual misconduct back in 2019 at a goth nightclub in Los Angeles. On Sunday, the Los Angeles Times published a report in which about 10 women accused the two co-founders of the now-closed club Cloak & Dagger, Adam Bravin and Michael Patterson, of ignoring alleged sexual misconduct incidents that were happening within the club.
In one of the accusations, a woman named Hannah Harding recounted an incident on October 22, 2019, wherein she was approached by the actor on the dance floor and who then made "lewd sexual overtures" towards her and her girlfriend.
She turned him down but he "kept pursuing her, groping her in front of her friends and several employees, including the club's operations manager, Kate Morgan," as per the Times. The victim also said that she asked Bravin and Patterson to kick the actor out and ban him but her plea was "dismissed."
"Adam called me 'to make sure and get a second opinion on him' because they didn't trust my story in the first place. They cared more about famous people at their club than women’s safety," she said.
Amid the outrage triggered by the actor's alleged behavior that day, many are remembering how his ex-wife, Mollie Gates, divorced him after an interview where he had claimed that 'swinging' had saved their marriage.

Who is Mollie Gates?
Gates is a costume designer who has over a dozen credits in the "costume and wardrobe department" as per IMDb - they include 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn' both part 1 and 2, 'The Carrier, 'Silicon Valley' - the series in which her then-husband starred in as Richard Hendricks, 'Search Party', 'Comedy Bang! Bang!', 'Palm Springs' and 'In the Bag'.
Middleditch and Gates got engaged in June 2015 and married two months later in the actor’s British Columbia hometown.
On May 28, 2020, Gates filed for divorce from then-husband Middleditch after the couple had separated on May 22 - she had cited 'irreconcilable differences.' The news of their split came after Middleditch spoke about his sex life with his then wife with Playboy magazine. In that interview, he said, "Only after I got married was I like, ‘Mollie, I’m sorry, but we have to get non-traditional here.’ To her credit, instead of saying ‘F**k you, I’m out,’ she was like, ‘Let’s figure this out.’ To be honest, swinging has saved our marriage." He added, "We have different speeds, and we argue over it constantly, but it’s better than feeling unheard and alone and that you have to scurry in the shadows. By the way, it’s now called being ‘part of the lifestyle.’ The term swinging is old.”
While there is no evidence that this was the reason for the couple's divorce, Middleditch did say then, "I don’t know how much I can say, because I don’t want my wife to be mad at me. I love my wife like I’ve never loved anyone before. With two people who feel that way about each other, how do you go down that road? It’s tough. Bring a therapist along for the ride.”
Speaking about the interview later with The Daily Beast, the actor said, "To be honest, it’s a thing I wish I could take back. It was poor execution. But I’ve learned to keep things a little more close to the chest. It was a painful [learning experience], to be honest.”
