‘The Undoing’ Episode 4: Were Grace and Elena lovers? Not just one kiss, these theories suggest they had sex

The murder mystery at the heart of ‘The Undoing’ will twist your mind. Elena Alves (Matilda De Angelis) is found bludgeoned to death and in the following episodes, we find out that she was having an affair with Jonathan Fraser (Hugh Grant). Suspiciously, Elena also met Grace at her gym — where she is naked from top to bottom — exposing every inch of her body. There is an air of awkwardness and a weird connection between the two.
When Grace tells Jonathan about the meeting, he says, “Were you a little bit aroused?” At the party, Grace and Jonathan come across Elena again when the latter brands her a “nudist”. Making hearts skip in the gorgeous gown that let her flaunt her breasts, Elena kept wistfully staring at Grace. When the two find alone time in the ladies' room, Grace asks Elena if she's okay as she wells up with tears. And after she is found murdered, Grace asks her husband if there were “other men”.
Did you notice how Fernando said there were no other “men” specifically, not if Elena had affairs with anyone else. It's as if he knows there were other women since she was one of them. Now, through the episodes, there are a number of flashbacks where Elena and Grace seem closer and there is also a hint of another kiss — other than the one in the lift. Were they sexually involved or, if plainly put, did they have sex in the locker room?
Undeniable sexual tension
One Reddit fan suggested: “When Grace asks Fernando if there were any other, specifically, men; Fernando replies that there were no other men, specifically. This seems telling, as other clues have indicated. Were Grace and Elena lovers? There is undeniable sexual tension between them, whether it be power plays or genuine. But, I question the timeline/circumstances. Elena and Grace seem to meet at the fundraiser meeting. I definitely think each one has scouted the other out and Grace must have known of Elena given Miquel was sick and Grace went to the hospital often, apparently. But, it’s the first face-to-face, acknowledgment greeting. Other encounters were from afar or being followed/eyed. Elena reintroduces herself at the gym, so there was no hanky panky between the fundraiser meeting and the gym. The fundraiser is the night of the gym encounter. There is no phone number exchange in the bathroom at the fundraiser when Grace offers her services. So, even if she got the info from the driver where he dropped Jonathan off, I don’t see how she timed that or how you show up without notice or invitation.”
Was Sylvia involved with Elena?
The user also says, “Maybe Sylvia did it with Elena? Jonathan and Sylvia could have had a three-way with Elena. I don’t know. Clearly, there is lesbian/bisexual tension all around and clearly there is a reference to no other men than Jonathan. Because of the timing/logistics with Grace and Elena, It leads me to believe Sylvia and/or Jonathan did Elena.”
Another adds: “Yeah. I don’t think Jonathan was Elena’s only lover. I’m gonna go with Sylvia or Grace being her other person. I noticed that statement about other men and how it was repeated. I think Elena’s savvy enough to know when someone is attracted to her. IMO, Grace clearly was but seemed not to want to acknowledge it. Like why not tell the police of her different run-ins with Elena? Seems like something she does not want to be brought up.”
The uncanny moment leaves many questions behind: Why did Elena kiss Grace? Did they have a deeper relationship? What is Grace hiding about the nude locker room meeting? Are there more secrets we don't know about?
A few fans on Reddit pointed out how the new scenes had more to them. “It’s interesting that during one of the flashbacks that Nicole’s character had, we saw a new scene from the locker room meeting that we weren’t shown the first time around. This seems to suggest that the two had way more interactions that we haven’t seen yet,” one said and another posted, “I think they had way more interaction than we were shown. The way Elena was looking at Grace at the party was very intense and Grace was very nervous.”
