Colin Jost tells Jimmy Fallon that he stole a photo from Bill Murray's house, hopes the star will forgive him
Comedian Colin Jost was on the July 14 episode of 'The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon'. He spoke about his recently published book 'A Very Punchable Face', quarantine life with fiancee Scarlett Johansson and the photo he once stole from Bill Murray's house.
About his life in quarantine, Jost said, "Yes we (him and Johansson) are in quarantine together, and it's been 120 days that we've been together. This beats our previous record of I think is five days. One of us is traveling working whatever and truly our record was five days."
The lockdown resulted in a lot of shows adapting to the 'at-home' editions, including 'Saturday Night Live' which Jost is a part of and Fallon's show which just returned to the studio two days ago. The live audience added a whole another layer to these talk shows which obviously changed once everyone was ordered to shelter in place. Fallon asked Jost if he'd done comedy with no audience to which the latter responded that he'd indeed had experiences where it "felt like there is no audience." He further added, "The worst standup (I did) in New York in East Village and there were three people in the audience. One was the emcee who introduced me and then sat next to the other two people. The second one was my recent ex-girlfriend who had broken up with me a month before but decided to support me and come see my standup. The third person was my agent. I did 15 minutes of standup which is so brutal for three people, it was terrible, it was like talking to three people."
About how he came up with the title of his book, Jost said, "Just looking in the mirror, kind of being honest". Jost has also put in a confession in this book about stealing a photo from Bill Murray's house, an incident that he's still mortified about. The photo in question was one where Richard Pryor held Murray in a headlock which appeared "cool" to Jost at the time. "I believe Mr. Murray is also Catholic and hope he understands the concept of confession, penance, forgiveness," he said of the incident while adding that he only stole it because the photo was in a box and he assumed Murray was going to throw away.
Like all celebrities appearing on the show, Jost too highlighted an initiative very close to him. He spotlighted a program called 'Reach' and elaborating about it he said, "It's a boot camp from 5th to 8th grade for kids who are economically disadvantaged from all the boroughs of New York and it helps get them extra training and help throughout summer and school year to bridge the gap that exists for a lot of kids in New York."
