Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman), our detective from 'The Sinner' is back and this time around, he is investigating a fatal crash involving one Jamie Burns (Matt Bomer). The trailer of the show introduces us to the beginning of this seed of doubt in Ambrose that we have seen before, the one that doesn't let him close a case because there is more to it than what he can see at the moment. He sees the car, he investigates the scene and he speaks to one of the passengers -- Jamie. For now, we don't know if Jamie was driving the car or not, but one thing Ambrose is certain about is the fact that there is something going on with this accident.

When he questions Jamie, Ambrose is told how the accident took place. Jamie says that they might have lost traction probably and the next thing he knew "we were just thrown. Upside down. Every direction." Something about speaking to Jamie strikes Ambrose odd. A fellow detective wonders why Ambrose even finds this case worth spending time on because there really is nothing to it, he feels. Ambrose, however, says, "his story, it felt like there was something else going on."

We then meet Nick Haas (Chris Messina) who is someone that Jamie met during senior year and there seems to a secret between Nick and Jaime. When Nick, Jaime and Jessica Jones (Parisa Fitz-Henley) are having dinner, talks of Nick knowing some interesting stories about Jaime arise and in a chilling tone, Nick asks Jaime, "Should I tell her?" It is clearly blackmail and when Jessica is not in the room, Jaime tells Nick "Don't play this game with me." The two men are clearly hiding something and this has some connection to the accident that Jaime was involved in.

We also hear Ambrose wanting to know why Jaime was on "that woman's property." The woman in question is portrayed by Jessica Hecht who tells Ambrose that she doesn't even know the men that he is speaking of in the first place. It also seems like Nick and Jaime may repeat what they did in the past but what's different this time, however, is that Jaime doesn't seem all the way in. He may have just confessed to Ambrose because both of them discuss Nick and Jaime says, "He's capable of anything." Ambrose doesn't fall for this and instead he asks Jaime, "And you aren't?" Ambrose has caught on to the fact that Jaime was also involved in some shady business in the past and he doesn't seem ready to write it off as a result of coercion.

Is Jaime really trapped or is it a situation of his own making? That is the story that Ambrose will be telling in the new season of 'The Sinner' where "some sins don't stay buried". The show executive produced by Jessica Biel is returning to USA Network on February 6.
