CENTRAL EUROPE, EUROPE: The common folks of an anonymous fictional European country on HBO's 'The Regime' are facing the brunt of having an unscrupulous individual as their Chancellor.

Created by Will Tracy the series, which premiered on Sunday, March 3, stars Kate Winslet in the eponymous role.

The series follows Elena Vernham (Kate Winslet), the chancellor of a European country, as she grapples with health issues and the looming threat of losing her authority.

From the outset of the series, it became evident that Elena's impulsive decisions were exacerbating her country's issues, and her recent endeavor to establish economic relations with China has only compounded those challenges.

Elena's health phobia, triggered by Herbert Zubak's (Matthias Schoenaerts) arrest in the previous episode, has intensified, with hot flushes becoming a primary concern this time.

Elena showed disinterest when her council informed her about the deteriorating conditions in the Westgate, where workers protested against Chinese sugar, leading to the tragic death of a pregnant woman.

However, at Nicholas Vernham's (Guillaume Gallienne's) insistence, she chooses to visit the factory and initiate the peace dialogue with the workers.

Nicholas faced a challenging task in persuading his wife, who already lives in her bubble, to visit the Westgate.

Upon Elena's arrival at the factory, she was met with glares from workers who showed little interest in welcoming her.

Elena is greeted by Silas Ganz, President of the Sugar Beet Union, who gives her a tour of the facility. However, she appears uninterested, likely due to the unpleasant odor.

When addressing the workers, she pledges to halt China's ascent in the country and decides to launch reforms aimed at helping them get back on their feet.

However, things were not as simple as they appeared, as Elena was merely making empty promises.

As she left the premises, Elena was greeted with applause, and Silas presented her with a sugar beet plant. However, as soon as they left for the palace, she promptly discarded it.

Upon her return, she instructs Mr Laskin (Danny Webb) to frame Silas by planting guns and money in his office. Despite Mr Laskin's attempts to talk her out of the plan, she insists on going ahead with it.

In the end, Silas is jailed for colluding with Americans.

'The Regime' is available to stream on Max.
