HBO's 'The Nevers': Release date, plot, cast and everything else you need to know about Joss Whedon's Victorian-era sci-fi show
HBO is preparing to bring out a brand-new Victorian sci-fi fantasy series created by Joss Whedon. ‘The Nevers’ is an extremely ambitious project that will introduce the world to a group of women living in Victorian England cursed with unusual abilities that both empower them and make them a target for malevolent forces.
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming show:
Release date:
The release date for ‘The Nevers’ hasn’t been made public yet but it is expected to begin airing sometime in the Spring of 2020.
Where to watch:
‘The Nevers’ will be airing on HBO.
Plot:
HBO described ‘The Nevers’ as “an epic science fiction drama about a gang of Victorian women, known as The Touched, who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies and a mission that could change the world.”
“They, themselves are not called that in the show,” Whedon explained during San Diego Comic-Con 2018 regarding the show's title. “It’s a phrase that’s meant to evoke a sort of reaction to their oddity, to what is considered unnatural. The idea that you should never be like this, you should never have existed. Something is not the way it should be, and you don’t have the right to have whatever weird power or ability that you have. And that idea, that some people are not of the natural order, is fascinating to me. I don't agree with it. But to me, it’s one of those things where you take something negative, and you wear it as a badge of honor, basically. Certain things could never happen - they’re happening. And the people they’re happening to are taking their place in the world.”
Cast:
Laura Donnelly
Laura Donnelly plays the main character of the series, Amalia True, who has been billed as the most reckless, impulsive and emotionally damaged hero of her time. Donnelly is best known for playing Janet "Jenny" Fraser Murray in ‘Outlander’.
Other cast members of the show include Nick Frost (‘Fighting With My Family’), Denis O’Hare (‘Big Little Lies’), Olivia Williams (‘Rushmore’), Ann Skelly (‘Kissing Candace’), Zackary Momoh (‘Seven Seconds’), Tom Riley (‘Dark Heart’), James Norton (‘Grantchester’) and Amy Manson (‘Once Upon a Time’) among others.
Creator:
Joss Whedon
Whedon is an acclaimed director, producer, and writer responsible for many movies and TV shows including ‘Avengers’, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, ‘Angel’, ‘Firefly’, and ‘Dollhouse’ (2009–10). He is set to serve as an executive producer, showrunner, writer and director of the series. Bernie Caulfield (‘Game of Thrones’) will also executive produce the series alongside Jane Espenson and Doug Petrie who will also be writing for the show.
