Why do the said machines from Matrix have the need for bioelectricity from humans, especially if they had access to fusion technology? That too, fusion tech is highly likely to provide a lot more power to these machines, in comparison to all human beings combined.

Having said that, one of the probable reasons as to why the machines do this is because they cannot break the very first law of robotics; that being, a robot will never harm a human being, state fans on Reddit. The next probable argument to stem would be how the machines killed hundreds of people in the movie and were also close to wiping out Zion completely.

In reality, the said machines actually didn't break the rule in the first place, but only altered the terms of it. Given that a machine won't harm humanity in its entirety, but by keeping all of humanity locked within Matrix, they are, in fact, preserving it. Else, Zion in itself is part of the Matrix, and being killed in that world probably does not kill an individual but instead, wipes out their memory, resetting it to the very first level of the Matrix.

In the first movie, Neo realizes the power possessed in Level 1 of the Matrix. In the second installment, Neo yet again realizes that he is the last man standing (still having the same power) while the rest of humanity is perishing in Zion. He learns that the supposed "real world" is just like any other level of the simulation. In the third movie, Neo decides to break through to get to the Matrix system, thereby realizing that there actually isn't a death star vent and that there's nothing more to destroy that will finally help humanity gain its freedom.

Morpheus recalls that Agent Smith had once told him that humanity in itself is a virus and that Neo is more than capable to use that power to his maximum advantage, thereby destroying all of the AI, bringing the entirety of the race wrapped in his finger.  In order to protect humanity,  all of the AI, in fact, rewrote the complete history to create this iconic war, while making the Matrix contain human beings, thereby protecting the planet.

The sole reason behind humanity entering the Matrix in the first place was because they had pushed the environment to the extent of its breaking point, so much that it could no longer support human life anymore.

'The Matrix Resurrections' was released on December 22, 2021, on HBO Max.
