'The Matrix Resurrections': How did Neo come back to life in latest instalment?

It appears that 'The One' cannot be destroyed, but that hasn't stopped the speculations from pourning in

The Matrix trilogy was one of the most mind-bending and groundbreaking sci-fi franchises and has been a topic of discussion to date. While the second and third movies had differing views from critics, there is no denying that fact it changed how the world viewed cinema. The ending was actually somewhat of a conclusion, but 'The Matrix Resurrections' completely changes what we watched in the original trilogy.

The first movie saw Neo (Keanu Reeves) a hacker meet Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) to visit a world that changes his views of the present world he lives in. After the cult "Red pill or the blue pill" moment, he wakes up to find out that the world he lived in was actually a state-of-the-art simulation known as the Matrix and is run by machines that use humans as a power source. What follows is Neo joining Morpheus and Trinity (Carrie Ann Moss) to fight against the machines. While the final film, 'Matrix Revolutions' shows that Neo died after obliterating Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving), he's still shown to be alive in the fourth film.

How did Neo survive?

Neo was last seen dragged away by the machines. He was shown to be dead after he gets a bit of boost from the machines by obtaining enough energy to destroy Smith. The move though kills him as well as he restores parity and saves Zion. The Oracle (Mary Alice) and the Architect (Helmut Bakaitis) discuss the possibility of Neo's return where the former says that his death and his sacrifice were selfless but might be a temporary fix and that when the need arises, Neo would be there.

And the trailer for 'The Matrix Resurrections' shows just that. Neo is back and is alive and kicking. He is plugged back into the Matrix and is back in action along with Trinity, who perishes in the final movie as well. There is a rather younger version of Morpheus, so there is that time travel possibility as well. For now, we believe that Neo or better known as 'The One' is one of the entities in the Matrix and is a design created for the sole purpose of keeping the simulated world from going bonkers (crash in exact computer lingo).

A new program chose often with the command to choose human survivors and repopulate the human cycle. That said, Neo was a special one as he turned against the rogue program and although he did die saving Zion and the Matrix, he perhaps survived due to the extraordinary abilities that were granted to him by the machines when he was 'The One'.

'The Matrix Resurrections' releases December 22 in theatres and on HBO Max.
