LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for 'The Marvels', the sequel to the 2019 film, 'Captain Marvel', and the continuation of the TV series 'Ms Marvel,' which premiered in 2022. Trailer shows actress Brie Larson who plays Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in the MCU going to lead the squad of all female superheroes including Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) from 'WandaVision' and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) from 'Ms Marvel'.

The first look of the upcoming movie was also shown exclusively to panel attendees at the 2022 D23 Expo. It's worth mentioning that Brie Larson's Captain Marvel will be leading a trio of characters that utilized the pseudonyms 'Captain Marvel' or 'Ms Marvel' at multiple moments in the original comic books. Carol, Monica, and Kamala possess an unusual set of transformative powers, as established by the filmmakers in previous films.

Trio set out to save the universe in ‘The Marvels’

The first trailer for the film shows how messed up things are for the Marvel trio and how the three superheroes are literally at odds with each other—every time one of them uses their powers, they swap places.

The official synopsis from Marvel Studio reads, “Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe.”

‘The Marvels’ marks director Nia DaCosta’s entry into Marvel Cinematic Universe

Director Nia DaCosta, who previously worked on 2021's 'Candyman' reboot, has directed Marvel Studios' all-female superhero film, marking her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. She is the first Black woman and the fourth woman to direct a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The screenplay was co-written by DaCosta, Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells.

Samuel L Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury, alongside Mohan Kapur as Yusuf Khan, Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, Caroline Simonnet, and Jessica Zhou. Goose, the fan-favorite Flerken, will also make an appearance.
