'The Last O.G.' Season 3: Release date, plot, cast, teaser and all you need to know about the laugh-fest
Jordan Peele may now be known as the master of horror storytelling, and for good reason, but he is, first and foremost, a funnyman! And what better proof of Peele’s writing prowess than another season of his (and John Carcieri’s) TBS comedy series ‘The Last O.G.’!
Release Date
Season 3 of ‘The Last O.G.’ is slated to premiere Tuesday, April 7, only on TBS.
Plot
‘The Last O.G.’ follows ex-convict Tray Barker (Tracy Morgan), released after serving fifteen years, who returns to Brooklyn to find that his old neighborhood has been heavily gentrified. He also finds that his ex-girlfriend Shannon (Tiffany Haddish) is now raising their children with a white man named Josh (Ryan Gaul).
Cast
Tracy Morgan as Tray
Morgan is perhaps best known for being a cast member of ‘Saturday Night Live’ and for his semi-autobiographical role of Tracy Jordan in the ‘SNL’ parody sitcom ‘30 Rock’. The 51-year-old comedian has been a part of several movies and television shows.
Tiffany Haddish as Shannon or Shay-Shay
The 40-year-old American actress, comedian, and author gained prominence with her role as Nekeisha Williams on the NBC sitcom ‘The Carmichael Show’. She has plenty of memorable performances on the silver screen, but her voice has also become an iconic part of films and television, especially with ‘The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part’, ‘The Secret Life of Pets 2’, ‘The Angry Birds Movie 2’, and the Netflix animated series ‘Tuca and Bertie’.
Allen Maldonado as Bobby
The 36-year-old American actor and filmmaker is best known for his role as Curtis in the comedy series ‘Black-ish’. While he has acting credits in many films and television series, his most notable work remains ‘Black-ish’ and ‘The Last O.G.’.
Maldonado, in an interview with MEA WorldWide (MEAWW) in January, talked about how it is quite the task to maintain a straight face when the two "incredibly talented, incredibly funny" people — Morgan and Haddish — who are always on their A-game, are at work. "You just have to be sharpened steel to be able to work with these two legends and superstars. It allows me to grow and be at the same level and match their intensity," he explained, adding, "So, it's one of those things where you're not focused on trying not to laugh. You just have to be in the moment or want to have fun and have the audience see that we're having fun and do the best work we can in the time that we have."
According to Deadline, Season 3 of ‘The Last O.G.’ has guest stars like Mike Tyson, Katt Williams, J.B. Smoove, Sasheer Zamata, Marla Gibbs, John Amos, Zach Cherry, Chelsea Frei, Lord Jamar, Clifton Powell, Roy Wood Jr., H. Michael Croner, and Andrew Richardson, with appearances by Karrueche Tran and Chris Bosh.
Teaser
Teaser for Season 3 that dropped last month begins with Tray saying, “Every time I take a step forward, I take three steps backward… Where do I begin? I don’t have a job, I don’t have my own place…” He is cut off by a punch from none other than Mike Tyson, who tells him to stop whining. The teaser goes on to show Josh telling Tray that they are family, to which Tray says, “Like in a ‘Different Strokes’ kinda way.”
The short teaser only promises an extremely funny Season 3, much like the previous two.
