'The Last of Us' fans already calling HBO series 'better than the game' after show's premiere
‘The Last of Us’ is undoubtedly one of the biggest shows of 2023 and it doesn’t come as a shock that HBO is leaving no stone unturned to make it a runaway success. The first episode of the series introduced the main characters and gave viewers an idea about how devastating this journey will be. However, it seems the network has once again knocked it out of the park with the new series and fans have already started calling it better than the video game series.
The recently released HBO series is based on the best-selling video game series that has won several accolades. The story primarily focuses on Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) who are trying to be safe from the zombie apocalypse. Although the show starts with how the civilization was destroyed after the zombie infection, it doesn’t take much time in taking a time-jump and takes viewers 20 years after the infection killed most of the humans. But Joel’s life turns upside down when he is given the task of transporting Ellie across post-apocalyptic America for a very special reason. The writers and creators of the show have received a lot of appreciation for staying true to the source material and scenes that looked like an exact replica of the game.

Some even went on to say that the premiere was even "better than the game" itself. One of the fans wrote, “The Last of Us Tv show might actually be better than the game. Holy F***.” Another fan wrote, “Really enjoyed ep 1 of The Last of Us. Think they did an even better job than the game with that opening sequence. Loved the little changes they made and the extra character development.”

Apart from such glaring reviews from the fans, the series also received universal acclaim from critics as well and has already surpassed all expectations. In Episode 1, we saw Joel trying to save his daughter Sarah (Nico Parker) on the Outbreak Days. However, Joel loses his daughter to an unfortunate accident, making him feel like a failure. The show then takes a 20-year time jump to let viewers know that America is ruined because of the infection and everyone, who was saved from it, has been living inside military camps known as Quarantine Zones.
Apart from Pascal and Ramsey, the series also stars Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv, Troy Baker, Merle Dandridge, Nick Offerman, and others in pivotal roles. After the first episode, ‘The Last of Us’ currently holds a 99% rating on the review site Rotten Tomatoes and has a score of 9.5 on IMDb.
‘The Last of Us’ will return to HBO with a new episode next Sunday on HBO at 9 pm EST.
