LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Drew Barrymore won the Best Host at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards. MTV uploaded the video of Barrymore on its official social media platform claiming, "The host with the moooost." The winning came as an irony as Drew stepped down to host the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards in a display of solidarity with the Writers Guild members' strike

Not only did the actress refuse to host the award ceremony but she also dedicated her win to all the writers of the show. The '50 First Dates' actress even recorded her speech on the toilet. The internet believes Drew's winning and her acceptance speech to be an "irony."

'Get eyeball to eyeball'

Drew won the Best Host title at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards without even hosting the award ceremony. Well, the actress received the Best Host award for 'The Drew Barrymore Show'. In the award acceptance video, Drew is seen wittily dedicating her title to the writers. The star claimed, "Hello, Hello! Thank you so much." She then acted surprised and said, "I can't believe this." The star added, "Thank you for letting me in. Get eyeball to eyeball. Thank you for this whole show."

Drew then announced a bunch of names of the writers, saying, "Also, I wanna thank Chelsea White, Cristina Kinon, and Liz Coe, are amazing amazing writers. And, this is definitely for them and every single person who makes the show.' She then ended the video claiming, "There is no I and mine just ours and we. Thank you from us and we."

Drew's winning Best Host award came as the "irony" after she backed out from hosting the 2023 MTV Awards. Seeing this, a fan tweeted, "LOL. The irony of Drew Barrymore winning Best Host after pulling out as the host for the #MTVAwards." Another user claimed, "The irony of Drew Barrymore winning Best Host for the MTV awards after backing out of hosting the awards." A fan wondered, "Ohh. Where's the irony Drew Barrymore cancels her hosting gig..but sends in a video recording for accepting an award." 



 



 



 

Furthermore, a user tweeted, "Not only did @DrewBarrymore refuse to host the awards, but she also dedicated her win for “Best Host” to her writers. Good for her everyone deserves fair pay #WritersStrike2023." Another noticed, "She accepted her award on the toilet which is quite fitting the way this has gone." Another user appreciated Drew's winning but questioned, "But in the bathroom?"



 



 



 

Why did Drew Barrymore not host 2023 MTV Awards?

Drew pulled out of hosting the 2023 MTV Movie and TV Awards as support to the Writers Guild of America strike that started on May 2. The actress issued a statement, claiming, "I have listened to the writers, and in order to truly respect them, I will pivot from hosting the MTV Movie and TV Awards live in solidarity with the strike." She then explained her side, "Everything we celebrate and honor about movies and television is born out of their creation. And until a solution is reached, I am choosing to wait but I’ll be watching from home and hope you will join me."

The actress further thanked MTV, "I thank MTV, who has truly been some of the best partners I have ever worked with." The actress claimed to return back to the stage next year when she can "truly celebrate everything that MTV has created."
