Drew Barrymore opens 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards with hilarious pre-taped skits after pulling out as host
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Drew Barrymore stepped down from hosting the 'MTV Movie & TV Awards' 2023 last minute and turned the show hostless. This year's MTV Movie & TV Awards 2023 will not be a live event and would be pre-taped for the audience. The show is being held amid the ongoing writers strike, which led host Drew Barrymore to drop out in a show of support for the writers.
Although MTV originally planned to continue with a live audience, the network announced that it would move to a pretaped event. Although Drew Barrymore won't be hosting the event this year, the awards show didn't entirely forgo her skits, which would have been funny at a live event. The star's hilarious skit parodying some of the biggest movies makes the rounds at the awards ceremony. The funniest skit showed Barrymore in the trailer of 'Barbie' talking nonsense in the background with the caption, "This Barbie... is a skipper!!!"

Why did Drew Barrymore step down as host?
As you might know, the Writers Guild of America is on strike and Drew Barrymore is showing her solidarity by stepping down as the host of the MTV Movie & TV Awards. "I have listened to the writers, and in order to truly respect them, I will pivot from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards live in solidarity with the strike," Barrymore said in a statement shared with CNN. This has created quite a ruckus for the event and instead of getting someone on board last minute, the ceremony is being held as a pre-taped event without a host. But, something that strikes odd is that even though Drew Barrymore stepped down as host, her skits are still being played at the show, which in this case has brought out some hilarious reactions from fans.
