'The Good Fight' Season 4 Episode 7 Preview: What does Jeffrey Epstein's death have to do with Memo 618?
Last episode's court case involving a trans woman's rights to compete in the Olympics dealt with some very controversial topics, but that was apparently just a warm up. In the season finale, lawyers Reddick, Boseman and Lockhart are sent to investigate the death of Jeffrey Epstein himself — mainly, to find out whether or not his death was a suicide.
Jeffrey Epstein's death, an apparent suicide, is the subject of a great number of conspiracy theories — all of which Liz Reddick (Audra McDonald) is attempting to ignore. The promo for the next episode does not explain why, but it shows that Liz has been tasked with discovering the causes behind Epstein's death and she is using the full resources of the firm to get to the bottom of the mystery. She is seen tasking the firm's employees with gathering as much solid evidence as possible.
Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski), for her part, continues her Memo 618 investigations, which appear to be tied to Epstein's case. It makes sense, as the Memo was crafted to protect the rich and powerful, a category that Epstein fell squarely into before his arrest. Diane says of Memo 618 that, "Jeffery Epstein's life was built on it" — a statement that is all but confirmed by the man who assigned Liz the Epstein case in the first place, before he walks away.
Mysteries and conspiracies have been everywhere this season, and though Diane is inching closer to finally getting answers, there are those who are like Marissa Gold (Sarah Steele), who believe that there just might be one unanswered question too many. With this being the season finale, however, there may be more than one mystery that is finally solved. Bizarrely, the promo also includes a brief exchange between Jay Dipersia (Nyambi Nyambi) and Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) about sex slaves, in space. What that has to do with anything remains to be seen, but 'The Good Fight' has always been good at giving compelling reasons to take ridiculous subjects seriously.
Due to coronavirus concerns, this season of 'The Good Fight' was cut short, making this episode the season finale. Just how that affects the storyline is unclear, but it will likely mean that this season ends on a cliffhanger. Fortunately, it has already been renewed for another season. So all unresolved mysteries at least hold the promise of eventual resolution.
This episode, 'The Gang Discovers Who Killed Jeffrey Epstein', airs on May 28 on CBS All Access.
