'The Good Doctor' Season 3 Episode 12 sees a huge growth in Jasika Nicole's character arc as Dr Carly Lever

Dr. Carly Lever is better known as Dr. Shaun Murphy’s girlfriend on 'The Good Doctor'. However, there is more to the character than just being the leading protagonist's love interest.
Played by Jasika Nicole, Carly is a pathologist who is usually behind the scenes in major surgeries and treatments. She spends most of her time in research, development, and treatment solutions which the surgeons use. Hence, she is rarely involved in bigger actions.
However, that does not undermine her character as an integral part of the core team at St. Bonaventure Hospital. Until very recently, Carly’s role revolved around her lab space and occasional interactions with doctors.
Soon, she became an important part of Shaun’s life. That is when we started seeing her character in depth. We learned about the kind of person she is, how she handles her personal life, her emotions and work relationships, giving us a peek into who Carly Lever really is.
However, her highlighting performance came in Episode 12 'Mutations' where we see the brilliant pathologist move out of the lab and into the operation room, helping leading surgeons with her research on a genetic mutation that could save a dying patient with a unique condition.
In this particular situation, we saw Carly in a new light. We know she is smart, intelligent, self-assured and confident about her work. But as she stepped into the real action, it shocks her.
For someone who only "tests" materials, it was quite a difficult ride to see a living, breathing human fighting for life. For the first time, we saw her vulnerable side as she breaks into tears thinking about the patient.
As Carly continues to reveal more about herself, she also draws a lot of attention from fans. From being neutral to empathizing, advising, and then despising her, Carly’s character experienced it all within a short span of time.
And for this, there is only one person to thank for and that is Jasika Nicole herself, not to mention the incredible writers who shape her character in every episode.
In a recent interview with us, Nicole was all praise for the creators of Carly Lever and shared her journey on the show. We have seen her in plenty of roles on primetime television but somehow her portrayal of Dr Carly Lever stays most prominent.
As Carly struggles through her relationship with Shaun with little roadblocks on the way, we can hope that we will see more shades to her character in the coming days of 'The Good Doctor'.
