The 2020 US presidential election is just around the corner. In a bid to encourage Americans to vote in the upcoming elections, Hollywood has come up with a unique way to help viewers learn more about their voting rights.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has put a halt on everything with many nations imposing strict measures to contain the outbreak. The entertainment industry worldwide has also faced the brunt. However, Hollywood welcomed the new normal with open arms by hosting a live table read of the insanely popular sitcom 'The Golden Girls' as part of ‘Zoom Where it Happens' — a new series launched by Black women in Hollywood encouraging Americans to vote in the upcoming presidential election.

Actors Tracee Ellis Ross, Regina King, Alfre Woodard and Sanaa Lathan have joined forces for a live table read of the famous sitcom as part of ‘Zoom Where it Happens’ which aired on September 8 on Zoom, CNN reported. The table read, directed by 'The Old Guard' helmer Gina Prince-Bythewood and hosted by Lena Waithe, features the women acting out the classic ‘Flu Attack’ episode of the '80s sitcom.

Produced by Tessa Thompson, Cynthia Erivo and Ava DuVernay, the table read gives ‘The Golden Girls’ a new take with an all-Black cast, centered on informing and raising awareness around voting rights. While 100,678 people RSVPed to the live table read, others who were unable to watch it took to Twitter to express their disappointment.

One user, seemingly upset for not being able to watch the table read wrote, "I guess I'll have to hate from outside the #ZoomWhereItHappens... I can't even get in."

Another user took to the micro-blogging website and wrote, "How in tf are y'all getting into #ZoomWhereItHappens??? The link keeps taking me back to the registration page."

Another person facing a similar registration page issue, tweeted, "It didn’t work for me… Registered, they sent a link and it just sends me back to the registration over and over again."

“Whats the passcode!!?!?! @TraceeEllisRoss @ReginaKing @justsanaa we cant get in to see it?!?!? #GoldenGirls #ZoomWhereItHappens,” one person tweeted.

“My link won’t connect. So disappointing #ZoomWhereItHappens #GoldenGirls,” wrote a user. Echoing similar sentiments, another one wrote, “I’m having a hard time getting into the zoom #GoldenGirls #ZoomWhereItHappens.”

Those who were able to watch the live table read gushed about it on Twitter, with one user writing, "Howling. Sanaa Lathan, Regina King, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Alfre Woodard are killing this! #GoldenGirls #ZoomWhereItHappens."

"I had a terrible day! But this helps lol #GoldenGirls #ZoomWhereItHappens," wrote another user.

"Ok... @justsanaa is giving me Blanche Blackerouex Realness!! Nicely done ma’am!! #ZoomWhereItHappens #TheGoldenGirls," one person tweeted. Another user wrote, “Yasssssss! Bringing The Golden Girls realness! #ZoomWhereItHappens."

King, Ross, Woodard and Lathan played the iconic ladies of ‘The Golden Girls’ — Rose, Dorothy, Sophia and Blanche respectively. The ‘Zoom Where It Happens’ series will air every Tuesday until November 3, the day of the 2020 presidential election. Seeking to encourage viewers to cast their votes and spreading awareness about voting rights, the series will also highlight organizations focused on mobilizing voters for the upcoming election. The ‘Golden Girls’ episode connected viewers to online civil rights organization Color of Change.
