‘The Durrells in Corfu’ season 4: Release date, plot, cast, trailer and everything you need to know about the popular British dramedy

Based on Gerard Durrell's autobiography ‘My Family and Other Animals', the PBS show returns for the final season

‘The Durrells in Corfu’ is based on Gerald Durrell’s autobiography- ‘My Family and Other Animals’. The popular dramedy series follows the Durrell family’s crazy adventures as they set up a life in the remote Greek island of Corfu, after picking up and moving out of England owing to a severe financial crisis. The popular series returns back for its fourth and final season. Here is all you need to know about the upcoming season.

Release date

The final season is set to premiere on Sunday, September 29, at 8 pm on PBS. 

Plot

Set in the 1930s, we are introduced to an English widow Louisa Durrell (played by Keeley Hawes), whose life hasn't been the same since her husband's death few years ago. Owing to her financial constraints, she decides to leave her home in Bournemouth, England to Corfu, a remote island in Greece. Louisa is accompanied by her four children- Gerry Durrell (played by Milo Parker), Larry Durrell (played by Josh O'Connor ), Margo Durrell (played by Daisy Waterstone), and Leslie Durrell (played by Callum Woodhouse). The series follows the hilarious adventures that follows the family's move to Corfu, as they struggle to make it their new home.

PBS describes the show as, "Keeley Hawes (Upstairs Downstairs) stars as an intrepid widow who decamps from dreary England to a sun-dappled Greek island with her four recalcitrant children, ages 11 to 21, on this adaptation of Gerald Durrell’s My Family and Other Animals and its two sequels."

The talented English actress reprises the role of Durrell matriarch - Louisa Durrell. Keeley's other notable works include her roles in popular television series ' Ashes to Ashes', and British espionage drama 'Spook'.

Apart from Keeley Hayes, Milo Parker plays the role of Louisa's son Gerry Durrell. Milo is a child actor best known for his in 'Robot Overlords', 'Mr. Holmes, and 'Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children'. Actor Josh O'Connor, Daisy Waterstone, Callum Woodhouse play the roles of Larry Durrell, Margo Durrell, and Leslie Durrell, the remaining three children of Louisa.

Creators

The show is based on Gerard Durrell's 'Corfu Triology'. The screenplay has been written by Simon Nye. The executive producers of the show are Sally Woodward Gentle, Lee Morris, and Simon Nye.

News

It has been announced that season 4 will be the final season of the popular dramedy series. In an interview, executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle shared her thoughts about the ending of series with, "It's been such a wonderful series to work on and I'm so pleased that viewers have taken the family to their hearts as much as we have I have no doubt that the brilliant Simon Nye will give the family a fitting and fabulous farewell.”
