'The Curse Of Oak Island' Season 7 Finale Review: The Fellowship will keep the faith and the treasure hunt alive
Sorry treasure-hunting folks, your weekly dose of 'The Curse Of Oak Island' might have just come to a standstill...for well, most likely a couple of months. Season 8 of the History Channel hasn't been confirmed yet. The finale of Season 7 aired today (April 28), and wow...what a bland finale to a show about treasure-hunting.
The team has always been markedly determined to scour the island and understand its numerous mysteries. There is more historical value attached to the island rather than monetary, because from Knights Templar to Spanish Galleons sailing to the island, there has been unending speculation about what could have happened here. For over two hundred years, scholars and researchers have been sure that treasure is buried on the island, but where? It all began in the 1790s when Daniel McGinnis and his friends discovered a depression near an oak tree. They kept digging and their work was continued later by treasure-hunters. As years evolved into centuries, the theories got wilder and more bizarre, and the emphasis became stronger. The island was supposed to be cursed as well, as five men had died trying to hunt for the fabled treasure. And now, legend has it that two more need to die for the treasure to be found.
Our Michigan brothers, Rick and Marty Lagina have been investigating the island for the past seven years. And during the course of Season 7, they drained the swamp, checked out numerous shaft sites, none of which amounted to much. The swamp is still believed to be a goldmine of answers. We are still uncertain about the anomaly at the bottom of the swamp. Is it a ship? What is it? The team had unearthed spikes, that they were sure belonged to a ship. They found the coconut fiber, that was believed to have hidden the mythical flood tunnels. The theories went on, and the guesses continued. In this episode, they try digging again and only to find a 'void'. Once again, they find a tunnel that they say is man-made. Jeez, at this rate what is natural on this island? Even the swamp is man-made they say.
They won't leave the island alone till they find a historical breakthrough they say. And so for the rest for the episode, they ruminate on whether they're really doing the right thing by keeping the faith and believing in the fabled treasure. The end story? They do.
The 'Fellowship' as they call themselves, is certain that they're within the reach of the treasure and that they will find it. The season began with a tribute to Dan Blankenship, and ended with one to him too. Winter has come, and it's time to pack up. But they're not going to give up soon and they'll 'keep the faith'. So...that means, another season of digging, mud and slush is to be expected hmm?
Well, we'll keep the faith too, fellowship. All said and done, the show is quite entertaining, even when they find pieces of wood. 'The Curse Of Oak Island' is a History Channel show.
