'Swamp Thing' star Maria Sten talks about prepping for her role as Liz Tremayne in the DC Superhero-horror series

The 29-year old shed light on her character in the show and described her experience as 'incredible' while working alongside Crystal Reed, one of the central characters in the series

If anything, 'Swamp Thing's' first couple of episodes established intrigue, horror and a quick introduction to some of the characters from Alan Moore's comics. One of the characters introduced was Liz Tremayne, a  journalist, played by Maria Sten.  Her character is introduced in the first episode as a local reporter at Houma in Louisiana. And right from the start, it is pretty evident that her character is one who is much akin to the comics- strong-willed, courageous and skillful.  

Talking to MEA WorldWide (MEAWW), Sten shed light on her playing the role of Tremayne and outlined her preparation in the lead-up to playing the character. "I had done my homework," she said. "I went through Alan Moore's source material, and all the original comics just to get a feel of her (Tremayne) world and do justice to the role. You kinda want to know what you're getting into," Sten added. 

Sten also went on to give a little more depth to her character while also teasing what we could look forward to from her character. "Liz is a no-nonsense character," she remarked. "But at the same time, she's an incredibly compassionate person, who is always hunting for the truth, and therefore finds herself getting into tricky situations."

Going by Sten's thoughts on her character, it is clear that Tremayne will play a crucial role going forward.  The 29-year old also heaped praises about working with Crystal Reed, who plays Abby Arcane, one of the central characters in the series. "It has been an incredible working experience with her," Sten said. "I adore her, she's a brilliant actress and on a personal level, she's one of my best friends now."

'Swamp Thing' also stars Crystal Reed, Andy Bean, Derek Mears, Jennifer Beals, Henderson Wade, Will Patton, Virginia Madsen, Jeryl Prescott, Henderson Wade, and Kevin Durand. The series is executive produced by James Wan, Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear, and Len Wiseman.

The superhero-horror series premiered on DC Universe on May 31 and Episode 1 is available for streaming. The second episode will release on June 7.
