'Survivor: Island of the Idols' season 39: Lairo tribe's women pave way to victory as men prove weak links

This week the women on the team proved that they don't need a man to help them win a challenge as they rose to the top with this week's Immunity challenge.

'Survivor: Island of the Idols' season 39 returned for a new episode on Wednesday night, and this week Lairo tribe rose to the top with a bang, thanks to the women.

Last week we saw Lairo undergo a hard time after they tried their best to finish the first task and win immunity. After they lost against the Vokai tribe they were sent to tribal council and we witnessed a blindsided elimination where Ronnie was sent home.

And it looks like their luck turned around after Ronnie left the island. This week the women on the team proved that they don't need a man to help them win a challenge, as they rose to the top with the Immunity challenge.

First piece of luck for the Lairo tribe came when Chelsea found a hidden immunity idol while collecting wood, giving her a pass through elimination. The next came during the immunity challenge where the team had to swim into the ocean and retrieve a ladder tied to the ocean floor.

Once collected, they had to swim back and use it to retrieve a bag with three balls. They then had to carry the ladder back to shore and use it to make a bridge and cross over. Once they reach the other side they had to land the three balls in three different targets.

Lairo tribe had a head start with the women ruling the task this week. First Elizabeth untied the ladder and then they retrieved the bag of balls. Though they had a tough time trying to get the balls into the target, they managed to finish ahead of the Vokai tribe who faced a lot of struggles along the way.

This earned them the immunity idol and spices for their tribe. Right from swimming into the ocean to retrieving the ladder, collecting the bag of balls, to landing the balls on the target, the women did it all.

Taking to social media after the episode fans revealed how Lairo tribe indeed doesn't need a man to keep their tribe strong, they can make fire, win challenges all better than the men.

"Lairo voted out a man and then won the next immunity challenge. It’s almost as if you don’t have to vote out a woman to “keep the tribe strong.” #Survivor," wrote a fan on Twitter. Adding to that another fan said, "With the minimal time accorded to Lairo because they won the challenge, Chelsea had herself one hell of an episode. Made fire and got the idol. Also played a key role in the challenge. Tour de force. #Survivor."

"Lairo women are carrying the tribe! #survivor," said a fan. While another added, "I'm obsessed with these Lairo girls! #Survivor39 #Survivor."
