It's go-time with the penultimate episode airing tonight. But what does that even mean anymore? After Chuck's Thanos-move in last week's episode, everyone has disappeared in a poof of smoke and ashes, while Death aka Billie and Castiel have been sucked into the Empty.

The only ones left are Sam, Dean, and Jack. As Sam tells Dean frustratedly, "there's no one left to save, everybody is gone". The reason they have dragged their tired ol' bodies to war against demons, angels, Heaven, and Hell has always been about saving people. But a 100 percent empty world is the death knell to the hero business. What are they even fighting for anymore since everyone they love or have known are gone?

Well, everyone except a dog apparently that Dean decides to adopt on the spot, assuring Sam that just because he is adopting the pooch doesn't mean it gets to ride shotgun. Sam looks a bit rattled about that even being a question.

There is the off chance that it is Archangel Gabriel, alive against all odds, pulling off his last great trick. Or it could be just a dog -- "god" spelt backwards that Chuck has allowed to live because he is fond of anagrams?

Jack, who reformed himself in the Empty after going boom and got transported back to the Earth plane is now making things wilt with just his touch. So he is some form of a toxic weapon. But is he toxic enough for the Chuck-Amara combine?

The official synopsis of the episode says: "Everything is on the line as the battle against God continues; a familiar face returns to join the fight." Thanks to the advance pictures for the episode, we know exactly who this "familiar face" is -- it is Michael in Adam's body.

We know that Archangel Michael and Adam, the Winchester brother from another mother, have come to some sort of agreement after spending years in the cage together. They share their body and consciousness symbiotically.

Earlier, he had helped Sam and Dean with a spell to defeat God when he was at his weakest and a doorway into Purgatory to get a Levithan blossom for the said spell. Now, he is back to help in the final battle it seems. But how he survives Chuck's purge is a big mystery, one that will be clarified (hopefully) in tonight's episode.

As God's favorite at one point of time, Michael probably has some tricks up his sleeve. Reddit forums have also been abuzz with theories that not only will Michael/Adam be back but also Lucifer, since we know that he is awake in the Empty. He just needs to be summoned and needs a host body. Could Jack become his vessel and will we see a grand showdown between God and the two Archangels he had once scripted a death-match for? It could be a coming full circle moment for the finale and a call-back to Kripe's finale of Season 5.

'Supernatural' Season 15 Episode 17 airs on Thursday, November 13, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
