K-pop's very own 'supergroup' SuperM has made their highly anticipated comeback with the song '100', the lead single off their 'Super One' debut album. And while the song and video aren't a major departure from their debut hit single 'Jopping', it's hard to deny the group's talent and star power are both through the roof.

SuperM was formed in 2019 by SM Entertainment and Capitol Music Group. Consisting of seven members, including SM boy group members Taemin (SHINee), Baekhyun and Kai (Exo), and Taeyong and Mark (NCT 127) as well as Ten and Lucas from WayV, the Chinese sub-unit of NCT that is signed to SM's China-exclusive label, Label V, SuperM was designed to be a group that took full advantage of the talent, skill, and popularity of members from some of SM's most in-demand groups. To that end, SuperM was already riding on some ridiculously high expectations when they dropped their single 'Jopping' and debut self-titled EP in 2019. And while some thought the debut was lackluster for a group populated by some of K-pop's best, it still went on to see commercial success, with the EP topping the Billboard 200, making SuperM the second South Korean group in history to top the chart, as well as the first Korean act to achieve the feat with their debut release. 'Jopping' additionally earned a spot among Billboard’s Critics' picks of '25 Best K-pop Songs' of the year.

Given the success of their debut, fans expected the group would return fairly quickly with their second release, but the Covid-19 pandemic had other plans for them. More delays followed, leaving fans angered and dejected. In the interim, Taemin returned with his solo comeback, '2 KIDS', an equally anticipated release. But before fans have really had a chance to get over that masterpiece, SuperM has returned with '100', and proven just why they carry the title of being a 'supergroup'.

"SO HOW DO U FEEL GUYS AFTER WATCH THE MV???? I'M NOT OKAY," tweeted one fan as the video premiered, while another noted, "#SuperM the music video is EXPENSIVE." SM is known for its standard style when it comes to music videos which include some swirling shots and dutch angles filmed in some very well-lit rooms and accompanied by some CGI backgrounds, and while '100' features the classic SM look, it certainly looks like they went all-out on this video. Another fan, noting that every single SuperM hashtag on Twitter appears to include a '100' emoji, stated, "No but they’re actually insane for this #SuperM #SuperOne #WeGo100 #WeGoHundred #SuperM100 #SuperMgoes100 #WeAreTheFuture #SuperMtheFuture."

While every member got to showcase their skills, Baekhyun, often cited as one of the best singers in the K-pop industry, has seemingly stolen the spotlight once again, both for his high note as well as his visuals. "There ain't no taming the beast~ Ok Baekhyun," tweeted one fan, while another stated, "LITERALLY ME TO BAEKHYUN!" along with a gif of SpongeBob bowing to a photo of the singer. And as one fan pointed out, "Lol it’s not a SuperM song without Baekhyun’s high note."

Other fans thought the group's outfits were odd, a criticism raised when the teaser photos first dropped. But mostly, fans couldn't get past Taemin's fashion sense in this video. "SuperM really had Taemin dressed like some kind of cyber gay cowboy for this music video and I'm crying," laughed one fan, while another said, "It's the Target shirt for me." Others sent out appreciation tweets for the group's makeup. "Omg the SuperM black eyeliner comeback FADLJKFSAD," tweeted one fan.

The song itself, however, has drawn mixed reactions. While some said they liked it, with one fan tweeting, "Omg new #SuperM video. #SuperM100 so good. Jopping? I don't know her," others weren't as impressed, stating, "IDK how a song can be so stupid but also amazing at the same time thank you SuperM for the consistency." The answer to how the song managed that duality possibly lies in another tweet that read, "I'll be honest I don't really like the song but I love SuperM so I'm gonna force myself to like it / and the music videos cool so," to which another fan responded, "ME they looked good that’s all that matters."
