'Superhero fatigue' is real but here is how Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige plans to tackle it

'We can tell any types of movie that share two things — the Marvel Studios logo above the title and a seed of an idea from our publishing history,' said Feige

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA : In a recent interview with The Movie Business Podcast, Marvel CEO Kevin Feige discusses "superhero fatigue," one of the most common concerns of the MCU, and explains how Marvel Studios is attempting to remedy it.

Kevin Feige talked about how audiences are worn out with all the superhero content on offer and what the Marvel Cinematic Universe is doing to prevent viewers from switching off. One of the most successful movie franchises ever, the MCU has produced a huge number of movies and TV episodes. Its detractors contend that it had a significant role in the overabundance of superhero entertainment that flooded Hollywood and even the TV landscape. With other initiatives scheduled for the following years, the MCU has not shown any signs of slowing down.

"But another way to do that is adapting them into different genres and what types of movies we want to make. And I, from sitting at USC, probably Semester 2 before screenwriting class ... sitting in Cinema 101 and being exposed to so many different types of film that I said, 'I want to make all of these. I don't want to just make one kind of movie, I want to make all kinds of movies.' And I found that if we tell the story right, and we adapt them in a way that the audience still, knock on wood so far, is following us along 22-plus years later with, that we can tell any types of movie that share two things — the Marvel Studios logo above the title and a seed of an idea from our publishing history," said Feige.

Laying out what audiences can expect, Feige said, “Each of our sagas are broken into phases and we now find ourselves on the precipice of Phase 2 of the Multiverse Saga. And there are two ways to do it. One, we look at an overarching narrative, always using the comics and the 80-plus years of Marvel comic history as our guide of what general, long-term story we want to do. But really, it comes down to each individual film or series, and what type of genre we want to do."

What movies and shows are part of Phase 5 of the MCU?

Phase 5, the second film of the Multiverse Saga, will commence in February with the release of 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania', which will include the introduction of Kang the Conqueror, the main antagonist of the series. 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3', James Gunn's final film for the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the foreseeable future, is scheduled for release in May, followed by 'The Marvels' in July. The next Captain America movie, 'Captain America: New World Order', will be released in 2024. After the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' leave the MCU, Marvel's Thunderbolts will assemble some of the MCU's villains and anti-heroes to create a new team. The eagerly awaited 'Blade' will conclude Phase 5.

What We Know About MCU Phase 6 & Beyond

'Avengers: Secret Wars,' which many have thought could bring together many other Marvel franchises, including the 'X-Men', is slated to finish Phase 6 in an explosive manner as the conclusion of the 'Multiverse Saga'. 'Deadpool 3' and the eagerly anticipated debut of the Fantastic Four, together with 'Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,' are currently confirmed for Phase 6. Other initiatives are currently under development and could possibly be part of Phase 6 too.
