Barring Lena, a major section of fans looked forward to the third episode to know more about J'Onn and his relationship with Malefic.

'Supergirl's second episode, 'Stranger Beside Me' saw the main characters pretty tied up with their own matters. However, something that particularly stood out was Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) and her plans to change humanity. The thought leads her to a dark path and that is a plotline fans are hating as they fear something horrible might befall the character.

Talking about the episode and Lena's experiments, a fan tweeted, "DO NOT MESS IT UP WITH LENA" while another fan said, "Damn y'all are on thin ice writing Lena. I better not see her s*****d up in the end." For some, Hope was the evil one out there. "Ok so, Lena would have never done what she did to Eve, Hope better be controlling her because this ep was so out of character for Lena." and one fan tweeted: "She’s precious cinnamon who’s been hurt & her AI is messing with her. She literally named it HOPE & she wants to do good." Some felt for Andrea Brook's Eve Taschmacher as well after Lena installs her AI, Hope. "LENA WHAT DID YOU DO TO EVE" a fan questioned.

Lena's project, codenamed 'Non-Nocere' — 'Do no Harm' as her AI Hope helpfully puts, sees Eve fitted with a brain-mapping device that allows Lena to install Hope in her to make her a physical version of an AI. One fan, however, was thoroughly disappointed with the way Lena's character was showcased. "I’m so far really displeased with the Lena Luthor plot this season. Lena is known for her morally gray actions, she’s a “the ends justify the means” sorta gal. That’s fine. What she’s going down this season so far seems very out of character."

Barring Lena, a chunk of the tweets revolved around fans looking forward to the third episode to know more about J'Onn (David Harewood) and his relationship with Malefic.
