‘Stumptown’ Episode 9: Liz's evolution from the mysterious girlfriend to a wimpy clingy mess is highly disappointing

Dex’s feelings for others were always crystal clear, which barely constituted anything, owing to her agonizing past. Although she and Grey shared way more than just friendship, by dodging what they called the "biggest bullet", the duo had established a healthy relationship.
However, Dex surprised herself when she saw the green-eyed-monster in her emerge when she met Grey’s lady love, who, to us as well, came across as equally interesting carrying the baggage of her own dark past. We thought all along there was much more to Liz than meets the eye, until the latest episode dawned on us. There are different shades to her persona, which we could have lived without exploring.
When Liz first walked into Bad Alibi and eventually lured the bar owner into bed, we were sure what to make of her. She was precisely what the series needed to break the pattern when it got in a downward spiral. Her charms, a mysterious past and most essentially, the maliciousness had us hoping she would be the next big thing to watch out for.
But, every shred of hope we were holding onto shattered when Liz suddenly turned into a wimpy damsel begging for Grey’s forgiveness when her actions were exposed. Her character from the start convinced us that she expected way more than just a romantic relationship from Grey. At one point, watching her increasing proximity with Ansel, we believed she was going to be the ultimate force Dex will have to combat to protect her brother and best friend.
When we learned about Grey’s past, which showcased him to be a felon, we couldn’t help but look at Liz as one of his acquaintances from the past, who was a part of the crime he had gotten himself involved in. Naturally, Liz was expected to be more skillful, even when she had to deal with a sloshed Dex! However, we were disappointed to witness exactly the opposite.
Will Liz return with the show and surprise us with what we expected of her all along? We need to wait until ‘Stumptown’ returns to our screens in 2020.
