LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The mockumentary sitcom, 'The Office', gathered a huge fanbase for its cringe comedy, great character choice and an ever-better synchronization between the characters. There was one detail though that was quite obvious and was highlighted throughout the series, which was using the camera as a comic device. The entire cast seemed to be stealing glances at the camera, sometimes disappointed, and sometimes with a grin.

In a recent podcast interview, Steve Carell who played Michael Scott, the regional manager of the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the paper company, Dunder Mifflin Inc, revealed that he can't let go of the habit of looking at the camera. The show made him develop this habit and he has experienced doing it while shooting for other movies and TV shows. For the unversed, 'The Office' is a mockumentary series created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.

The 'Office Ladies' podcast

'The Office' co-stars and best friends, Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, have their own podcast show called 'Office Ladies' where guests re-watch the episodes of 'The Office' and talk about it in depth. Recently, the duo invited Steve Carell on the podcast, where he revealed the strange habit that was developed on the show, which later used to come out during filming for other projects. "I have never had a job where I didn’t look into the camera at some point," Carell explained, as he conversed with his former castmates Angela Kinsey (Angela) and Jenna Fischer (Pam) on their podcast. After Carell's major reveal, Angela seemed to agree with the fact that they went through the same thing, "Same for me! I actually had a director say 'Um, Angela. You just looked right down the barrel.'"

'Only watched one minute of the original UK series'

As mentioned, the members of the podcast, along with the guest re-watches episodes of 'The Office' and records their reactions to certain scenes and jokes that are fan's favorite and some that have paved the way to become internet memes, for example, the renowned "parkour" scene. While re-watching the show, Steve Carell admitted to the fact that he only watched one minute of the UK series 'The Office'. In the UK's version, Ricky Gervais played the office manager, David Brent and Carell didn't want to take inspiration from that character, rather wanted to improvise and create something of his own, which he perfectly did with his character Michael Scott.
