'Stargirl': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and everything you need to know about Arrowverse's newest superhero
It is going to be be a very different Arrowverse in the aftermath of the 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' with new heroes arriving on The CW's superhero slate, and older series coming to an end.
The concept of legacy is likely to be a big part of the Arrowverse going forward, and there's no character more suited to explore that theme than legacy character 'Stargirl' herself.
Wielder of the Cosmic Staff, and torchbearer of the Starman legacy, the Arrowverse's newest superhero is set to arrive in the spring of 2020.
Release Date
The first season of 'Stargirl' will air in the spring of 2020 on the DC Universe streaming app and The CW.
Plot
The series follows the adventures of Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger), who discovers the Cosmic Staff amongst her step-father Pat Dugan's (Luke Wilson) belongings.
Courtney discovers that her step-father used to be a sidekick for the former Starman (Joel McHale) before the superhero team known as the Justice Society was taken out by an unnamed foe.
Chosen by the Cosmic Staff to carry forward the Starman legacy, and with the help of her step-father, Courtney suits up as Stargirl to inspire a new generation of superheroes.
Cast
Brec Bassinger
The series will star Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitemore aka Stargirl. Bassinger is best known for her role as Bella Dawson on Nickelodeon's 'Bella and the Bulldogs'. She has since starred in the 'School of Rock' TV series, and '47 Metres Down: Uncaged.'
Luke Wilson
The show also stars Luke Wilson as Courtney's step-father, Pat Dugan. Wilson is a well known comedic film actor, best known for roles in 'Legally Blonde,' 'Idiocracy,' and 'My Super Ex-Girlfriend.'
The series will also see members of the Justice Society, including Joel McHale as Starman, Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Hourman, Henry Thomas as Doctor Mid-Nite and Brian Stapf as Wildcat.
Creators
The show's plot will be written by Geoff Johns, who co-created the character for the comics. Johns will also act as executive producer with Greg Berlanit and Sarah Schechter.
Where to watch
The show will be released on the DC Universe streaming app, and then air on The CW a day later.
Trailers
The CW released the first trailer for 'Stargirl' on December 10.
